Organ Donation Awareness Desk Promotes “Life Beyond Life” at Holy Family Church Blood Donation Camp

A meaningful initiative promoting both blood donation and organ donation awareness was held at Holy Family Church on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

The Blood Donation Camp was organised in collaboration with Loving Hearts Goa and North Goa District Hospital Asilo Blood Bank from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Ahead of the event, announcements were made to parishioners encouraging voluntary participation, and the response was encouraging as nearly 27 individuals donated blood, helping save lives through their contribution.

Loving Hearts Goa, known for its dedicated voluntary blood donors, played a key role in supporting the initiative. During the event, Gabriel addressed donors and thanked them for their selfless act while stressing the critical need for regular blood donations.

The event also featured an Organ Donation Information Desk aimed at spreading awareness about organ donation. Gabriel explained that one organ donor can save up to eight lives and improve nearly 50 more through tissue donation.

He informed attendees that while living donations such as kidneys or part of the liver are possible, organ donations after brain death caused by accidents or trauma can save multiple lives.

To help educate participants further, Gabriel addressed 30 frequently asked questions related to organ donation and distributed awareness flyers with QR codes that allowed individuals to register as organ donors.

It was also highlighted that 83 individuals in Goa are currently waiting for kidney transplants, while kidney and cornea transplants are currently the only transplant procedures being conducted in the state through four licensed hospitals.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, where Gabriel expressed gratitude to Rev. Fr. Adolf Alvares, Parish Priest of Holy Family Church, Rev. Fr. Boris Dias, and the team at Loving Hearts Goa for supporting the initiative.

The programme successfully highlighted how community-driven efforts can save lives through both blood donation and organ donation awareness.
