The much-anticipated magnum opus Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, continues to generate buzz, but fans hoping to see a face-off between Yash and Ranbir Kapoor in the first instalment will have to wait.
Speaking at CinemaCon alongside producer Namit Malhotra, Yash revealed that the two lead actors do not share any scenes in Ramayana: Part One. He explained that the narrative structure of the film focuses on the individual arcs of Rama and Ravana within their respective worlds.
“In the first part, I have my own kingdom as Ravana, and Rama has his own kingdom,” Yash shared, highlighting the storytelling approach of the two-part epic.
Despite not appearing together on screen, Yash spoke highly of Ranbir Kapoor, calling him a “fabulous actor” and emphasising the mutual respect between them. He added that their collaboration is driven by a shared vision to bring an ambitious and culturally significant story to life.
Director Nitesh Tiwari has also hinted at a layered portrayal of Ravana, moving beyond the traditional depiction of a one-dimensional antagonist. The film aims to explore his multifaceted personality—as a warrior, scholar, musician and devotee—while underlining the moral consequences of ego and vengeance.
Ranbir Kapoor, who essays the role of Rama, has also expressed excitement about Yash’s casting as Ravana, praising his aura and screen presence. According to him, Yash’s interpretation of the character will offer audiences a fresh perspective.
The film boasts an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol and Ravie Dubey. Ramayana: Part One is slated for a grand global release during Diwali 2026, with the second part expected to follow in Diwali 2027.
With its scale, vision and storytelling approach, the film is shaping up to be one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious mythological projects.
