Goa and Madhya Pradesh Explore Collaborative Opportunities to Boost Heritage and Cultural Tourism


The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, recently engaged in a significant meeting with senior officials from the Government of Madhya Pradesh to explore collaborative opportunities in tourism, focusing on heritage, wildlife, and cultural experiences. The discussions centered on creating synergy between the two States to promote two-way tourism, encouraging visitors from Madhya Pradesh to explore Goa’s diverse tourism offerings and facilitating travel from Goa to Madhya Pradesh to experience its rich heritage and wildlife destinations.

The meeting saw participation from key tourism officials including Shri Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Shri Gavin Dias, General Manager (Hotels & Marketing), GTDC, and Shri Jack Sukhija, President of TTAG, alongside Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, IAS, Principal Secretary, Culture, Tourism & Public Relations, Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that it strengthens efforts to promote tourism beyond beaches, offering travellers deeper access to heritage and cultural narratives. He noted that Goa and Madhya Pradesh share complementary tourism profiles that can benefit both regions through collaborative circuits, knowledge sharing, and enhanced visitor experiences, aiming for tourism that is meaningful, responsible, and driven by community participation.

Shri Kedar Naik highlighted that the exchange of ideas with Madhya Pradesh opened avenues for joint product development in heritage and cultural tourism. The States are exploring curated experiences that encourage visitors to immerse themselves in the cultural richness of both regions. Madhya Pradesh has extended an invitation to the Director of Tourism, Government of Goa, along with tourism trade stakeholders, to visit the State in the coming quarter for further discussions and planning.

In return, Goa is preparing to host tourism trade representatives from Madhya Pradesh to strengthen heritage and cultural tourism initiatives. Both Governments are focused on improving visitor experiences, expanding tourism circuits, and fostering cultural appreciation. The collaboration is expected to generate mutually beneficial tourism growth, promote sustainable practices, and support local communities while enhancing domestic travel networks.

This partnership reflects a shared vision to celebrate cultural roots, develop meaningful tourism products, and create travel experiences that connect people with the heritage, wildlife, and culture of Goa and Madhya Pradesh alike.

MLA Kedar J. Naik Appointed Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation


Kedar J. Naik, Hon’ble MLA of Saligao, has officially assumed charge as the new Chairman of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC). His appointment heralds a new era in Goa’s tourism sector, focusing on Regenerative and Responsible Tourism, community engagement, and sustainable growth.

With extensive administrative experience and a deep understanding of grassroots governance, Shri Naik is expected to strengthen GTDC’s efforts in promoting sustainable tourism infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and developing experiences that preserve Goa’s cultural and natural heritage. His leadership aims to position Goa as a year-round global destination that balances tourism growth with environmental and community welfare.

Speaking on his appointment, Shri Naik said, “I am honoured to take on this responsibility and contribute towards shaping Goa’s tourism landscape in line with our vision for Regenerative Tourism. S. Sankarasubramanian of Coromandel International Elected Chairman of FAI


The Board of Directors of the Fertiliser Association of India (FAI), in its meeting held on October 31, 2025, has elected Mr. S. Sankarasubramanian, Managing Director and CEO of Coromandel International Limited, as the Chairman of FAI.

Dr. Siba Prasad Mohanty, Managing Director of Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd., who was earlier one of the two Co-Chairmen, will now serve as the sole Co-Chairman of the Association.

Mr. Sankarasubramanian, previously Co-Chairman of the FAI Board and Chairman of FAI’s Southern Region, brings with him more than 30 years of deep industry experience, especially in the Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertiliser segments. His leadership is expected to further strengthen FAI’s strategic role in supporting India’s agricultural ecosystem.

In his remarks, Mr. Sankarasubramanian reaffirmed FAI’s commitment to “driving innovation and sustainability through resource efficiency and balanced nutrition, while working closely with policymakers to achieve Atmanirbharta in the fertiliser sector.” He emphasized that the industry would continue aligning its goals with national agricultural priorities to foster growth, resilience, and long-term food security.

The FAI also extended its appreciation to Mr. Sailesh C. Mehta, the outgoing Chairman, acknowledging his leadership and valuable contributions to the sector.

INDIA MARITIME WEEK 2025: INDIA SETTING BENCHMARKS IN MARITIME GROWTH


Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Amit Shah, inaugurated India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, marking the start of the world’s largest maritime gathering. Held under the theme “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision,” the five-day event brings together over 100,000 participants from 85 countries, including 500 exhibitors, 350 speakers, and 12 concurrent conferences and exhibitions.

IMW 2025 highlights India’s maritime resurgence and its vision of transforming the nation into a global maritime leader by 2047. In his inaugural address, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the maritime sector represents India’s strength, stability, and sustainability. “This is India’s maritime moment — one that is transforming the Gateway of India into the Gateway of the World,” he declared. Shah noted that India’s strategic location, 11,000 kilometres of coastline, 13 coastal states, and 23.7 lakh square kilometre Exclusive Economic Zone provide unparalleled maritime advantages. “Around 60 percent of our GDP is contributed by coastal states, and nearly 800 million people depend on the sea for their livelihood,” he added.

Highlighting India’s growing leadership in the Indo-Pacific, Shah said, “Leveraging its maritime position, democratic stability, and naval capability, India is acting as a bridge between the Indo-Pacific and the Global South, fostering development, security, and environmental progress.” He emphasised that the government’s maritime policy, rooted in Prime Minister Modi’s vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), aims to strengthen India’s role as a global maritime hub. “India’s maritime strength lies not in competition but in cooperation. Our goal is to build a green maritime future that accelerates growth while maintaining harmony with nature.”

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, described IMW 2025 as “a turning point in India’s maritime journey,” highlighting policy reform, digital transformation, and record investments. He noted India currently handles 10 percent of global seaborne trade and aims to triple this by 2047, supported by a fourfold increase in port capacity and development of deep-draft mega ports. India’s port capacity has nearly doubled to 2,700 MTPA, cargo handled has risen to 1,640 MMT, and inland waterways cargo has grown from 6.9 MMT to over 145 MMT in the last decade. The number of Indian seafarers has surged by 200 percent, reaching 3.2 lakh.

Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur, emphasised India’s focus on sustainability, innovation, and human resource development, noting that India is building a smart, globally competitive maritime ecosystem that empowers industry, protects the environment, and connects Bharat to the world.

The inaugural day featured ministerial plenaries, bilateral meetings, and state-led sessions focused on innovation, sustainability, and investment. Bilateral sessions with Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia explored collaboration in shipbuilding, green ports, and maritime logistics. At the Plenary Session, global maritime leaders from Antigua and Barbuda, Liberia, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Norway, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea emphasised cooperation, sustainable innovation, and shared responsibility in advancing a resilient blue economy.

Maritime-rich states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Goa, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands showcased port-led industrial projects, blue economy initiatives, and maritime cluster development plans aligned with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. “Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue” provided a platform for diplomats, strategists, and experts to discuss connectivity, sustainability, and ocean governance.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra), Bhupendrabhai Patel (Gujarat), Dr. Pramod Sawant (Goa), Mohan Saran Majhi (Odisha), Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, alongside global delegates, industry captains, senior officials, and maritime students.

India Maritime Week 2025 continues through October 31, featuring over 100 thematic sessions, CEO roundtables, and ministerial dialogues. The event reflects India’s civilisational ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family — as it connects global partners through shared maritime aspirations, cementing India’s position as a rising global maritime power.
