On the occasion of 63rd Goa Liberation Day, the Aguad Port and Jail Complex in Sinquerim has thrown its doors open for all Goans to immerse themselves in the spirit of the Liberation Day. Goan residents will not be charged for the entry to the complex free of cost, on furnishing of any government certified identification.
As a cultural and historical destination, the Aguad offers visitors a chance to walk down memory lane and relive some of the experiences of the heroes of Goaโs past. From the jail cells that have been converted into a digital interactive museum, one is dedicated to Goaโs freedom struggle and narrates the stories of Goaโs freedom fighters. A dedicated wall within the complex proudly displays the names of the countless unsung heroes of Goaโs liberation struggle. The site also features statues of prominent figures like TB Cunha, Father of Goan nationalism and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, a venerable freedom fighter and socialist ideologue, further cementing its significance as a historical landmark.
The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa organised The Raponkarancho Seafood Festival commenced on a vibrant note on 13th December 2024 at the scenic Arambol Beach, celebrating Goaโs rich coastal heritage and seafood culture. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Honโble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Chairman of GTDC and MLA Sanvordem Constituency Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar, and Mandrem MLA Shri Jit Arolkar and Director Tourism, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS.
The festival brought together Raponkars (traditional fishermen), dignitaries, and enthusiastic visitors, including foreign tourists, who thoroughly enjoyed the authentic seafood delicacies. Traditional Ghumots were presented to the dignitaries and foreign guests, symbolizing Goa’s cultural pride and warm hospitality.
Day 1 featured an exciting lineup of performances, including the SHINE ON band, Cosmic Sound live set, USMAN, and OG SHEZ, drawing enthusiastic participation from locals and tourists alike.
Honโble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte further highlighted the departmentโs commitment. โThe Raponkarancho Seafood Festival is not just a celebration of our rich culinary tradition but a platform to promote sustainable tourism. It recognizes the vital role of our fishing community in shaping Goaโs coastal heritage. Through such events, the state aims to not only attract tourists but also ensure that our local traditions and communities are celebrated and supported. Events like these help create a vibrant and inclusive tourism ecosystem that benefits the people of Goa.โ
Mandrem MLA Shri Jit Arolkar spoke about the cultural importance of the festival, stating, โThe festival is a reflection of our cultural identity and gives us an opportunity to showcase the efforts of our fishermen.โ
Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar, Chairman of GTDC, praised the initiative, reaffirming Goaโs commitment to promoting events that celebrate local heritage and traditions.
Director Tourism, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, added, โThis festival showcases Goaโs rich seafood culture and also serves as a platform for community engagement and support for sustainable tourism practices.โ Shri Deepak Narvekar, Deputy General Manager Mktg GTDC proposed the vote of thanks.
The Day 2 will feature performances by Purple Rain, Gravity Band, DJ Katrin and DJ Ivan, and day 3 will feature performances by The Imperial Band, Forefront as well as DJ Afroz Sayed and Teri Miko.
With an promising start, the festival is set to continue on 14th and 15th December 2024, offering visitors an immersive experience through cultural programs, live performances, and traditional Goan seafood delicacies. All are encouraged to join the celebration and partake in Goaโs vibrant coastal traditions.
Panaji, 5th December 2024: The Department of Tourism in collaboration with Travel Corporation India (TCI), hosted a sunset boat cruise tour for around 30 travel agents from Poland on December 5, 2024. The event aimed to showcase Goaโs scenic beauty, rich culture and attract more tourists from Poland to Goa.
The guests were cordially welcomed at Captain’s Club, Ribander, by Shri Gavin Dias, General Manager, GTDC; Shri Deepak Narvekar, Deputy General Manager (Marketing), GTDC; Shri Shawn Mendes, OSD to the Minister for Tourism; Shri Ernest Dias, Chief operating officer, TCI and Shri Jayesh Kankonkar, Assistant Director of Tourism. The evening began with an engaging presentation by Shri Gavin Dias, spotlighting Goaโs vibrant heritage, cultural diversity, and stunning landscapes followed by the screening of a captivating video highlighting Goa’s unique hidden gems and current tourism initiatives was played, offering guests a glimpse into the state’s diverse attractions.
The highlight of the tour was a boat cruise from Ribander, offering stunning views of Old Goa and Panaji. The serene journey, with its calm waters and lush greenery, gave guests unforgettable memories as they enjoyed views of Goaโs landmarks, including the World Heritage Sites at Old Goa along with Divar Island, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, and Atal Setu, showcasing the regionโs beauty and history. The guests were brought to Goa by Rainbow Tours, the charter operator that facilitates charter flights to the state, with two flights arriving every 10 days.
Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of GTDC remarked, โThis initiative highlights Goaโs breathtaking scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage, offering an immersive experience for guests while strengthening international tourism ties. By creating experiences that celebrate Goaโs essence, we aim to inspire a deeper understanding of sustainable tourism that benefits both visitors and the local community.โ
Shri Gavin Dias, General Manager, GTDC, highlighted, โGoaโs seamless connectivity through charter flights, waterways, rail, and road, along with user-friendly apps like Goa Taxi and Goa Miles, ensures hassle-free travel. Recently, Department of Tourism, also successfully hosted the Goa Roadshow 2024 in Warsaw, Poland. This exclusive invite-only event showcased Goaโs rich heritage, cultural traditions, and tourism offerings, engaging Polish travel stakeholders through presentations, interactive sessions, and personalized discussions strengthening ties with the Polish travel community.
The cruise ride concluded with the travellers expressing their admiration for Goaโs natural beauty and the immersive experience curated for them. This collaboration is yet another step in promoting Goa as a global tourism hub, blending its rich traditions with modern sensibilities to create unforgettable journeys.
