Goa Tourism Expands Global Presence with Successful Roadshow in South Korea


Goa, 28 March 2025 : The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, successfully hosted a roadshow in Seoul, South Korea in Seoul and Busan on 28-29th March. The initiative aimed to position Goa as a premier travel destination for Korean tourists while fostering stronger tourism ties between the two regions.

During the visit, the Goa delegation led by Shri Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Government of Goa, met with Shri Amit Kumar, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea, who appreciated Goa’s enhanced infrastructure that offers improved accessibility to its diverse attractions. He highlighted Goa’s renowned cultural heritage sites, water sports, and wellness experiences, including yoga and Ayurveda experiences, as key elements appealing to international travelers.

The Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik, noted that Goa continues to attract a significant number of international tourists, particularly from Russia and the UK. Domestic travellers have also shown growing interest in visiting Goa, even during the monsoon season. He highlighted key initiatives to enhance visitor experience, including plans to expand direct international flight connectivity and develop a digital transportation guidance app.

To further promote Goa’s offerings, the Department of Tourism will soon share its latest promotional videos with the Indian Mission for public outreach through social media channels. An invitation to the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will also be extended to engage Korean travelers and filmmakers.
Smt. Ananya Agarwal, First Secretary and Head of Chancery, Embassy of India, Seoul, Republic of Korea introduced the Seoul International Travel Fair (SITF) as a prominent platform to showcase Goa’s tourism potential to Korean audiences.

Currently, there are eight flight routes connecting Goa to South Korea, operated by airlines such as Air India, Korean Air, and Asiana Airlines. Plans are underway to further expand connectivity to cater to the growing interest in Goa as a travel destination.

The Department of Tourism continues its proactive efforts to showcase Goa’s rich culture, heritage, and adventure opportunities, inviting travelers from around the globe to discover the state’s unique charm.

No mall in Old Goa: Goa Tourism clarifies development plans


Panaji, March 24, 2025 : The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, convened a press conference today to address public concerns and provide clarity regarding the ongoing development project in Old Goa under the Central Scheme PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive).

The conference was chaired by Director of Tourism, Shri. Kedar Naik; Dr. Kishore Raghubans, Assistant Superintending Archaeologist, ASI; Dr. M. P. Balan, Executive Engineer (North), Project cell, SPV, GTDC and others.

During the conference, Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik, clarified that no mall is being constructed in the area. The project focuses solely on enhancing visitor facilities, including the development of a parking area, an information center, and improved lighting for the monument. All necessary permissions including the office of the Dy. Conservator of Forests, North Goa Division; Town and Country Planning Department(TCP) and National Monument authority (NMA) have been duly obtained, and work had commenced in accordance with the required guidelines. At present, only the site clearance process has commenced. An application for the NOC from the panchayat has been submitted, and all necessary permissions will be obtained before any construction begins.

Highlighting the project’s community involvement, Shri Naik emphasized that the Department of Tourism had engaged with all stakeholders, incorporated their feedback, and gained their confidence. However, following directives from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the work has been temporarily halted and will resume once clearance from ASI is received.

Speaking on behalf of ASI, Assistant Superintending Archaeologist Dr. Kishore Raghubans stated, โ€œduring the excavation process, cannonballs were discovered at the site. Consequently, the ASI instructed the Tourism Department to pause work to allow proper documentation through photography, drawings, and reports. This process is ongoing and is expected to take some time.โ€

The project is designed to enhance the visitor experience while preserving the heritage significance of the area. Key developments include the construction of a parking lot, a dedicated tourist facilitation center, and improved external lighting with streetlights in the parking area. The initiative also features monument faรงade illumination, E-Auto services to facilitate tourist movement, along with comfortable seating arrangements and improved signage for better navigation.

The charter flight landed at Dabolim Airport at 6:30 pm on March 18, 2025, where officials from the Department of Tourism ensured a smooth and warm welcome for the Iranian visitors. The tourists were greeted with traditional Goan hospitality, complete with floral garlands and a ceremonial welcome.

Shigmotsav 2025 in Ponda, sets the stage for a cultural extravaganza


Ponda, March 2025 โ€“ The much-anticipated statewide Shigmotsav celebration commenced with grandeur and enthusiasm from Ponda on March 15. The spectacular Shigmotsav parade organised by the Ponda Taluka Antruz Shigmotsav Samiti in association with the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, featured traditional Romtamel performances, folk dances, fancy dress and elaborate floats, set off from Tisk-Ponda, attracting large crowd eager to witness Goaโ€™s rich cultural heritage.

The event saw the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Honโ€™ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant; Honโ€™ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte; Honโ€™ble Minister of Agriculture and MLA, Ponda Shri Ravi Naik; Honโ€™ble Member of Rajya Sabha. Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade; President, BJP Goa Pradesh, Shri. Speaking at the event, Honโ€™ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte stated, โ€œShigmotsav is a celebration of the Goan spiritโ€”our traditions, our art, and the deep-rooted stories that have been passed down through generations. Through regenerative tourism, we are showcasing local traditions and village-level events to draw tourists to Goaโ€™s hinterlands. The tourism event calendar is regularly updated, with festivals like Shigmo receiving special focus.โ€

A massive crowd gathered in Ponda to witness and experience the extravaganza of the event, immersing themselves in the vibrant celebrations and cultural splendor.

The Shigmotsav parades will continue across Goa in the coming days, bringing vibrant celebrations to different towns. After Ponda, the festivities will take over in Quepem on March 17, and Curchorem on March 18. On March 19, the celebrations will reach Shiroda, continuing to Calangute and Bicholim on March 20, Vasco on March 21, and Panaji on March 22. The streets of Mapusa and Sanguem will come alive on March 23, while Cuncolim will host a grand parade on March 24. The vibrant processions will then move to Pernem and Canacona on March 25, Dharbandora on March 26, Valpoi on March 27, and Sanquelim on March 28, before concluding in Mandrem on March 29.
