Margao, Jan 4, 2025: Goa witnessed an unforgettable evening of cultural celebration and entertainment at the Goa Food & Cultural Festival 2025, held in Margao on January 3, 2025. The event, organized by the Department of Tourism, brought together a rich blend of traditional and contemporary performances, drawing an enthusiastic audience from across the state.

The evening commenced with a vibrant inaugural ceremony which was graced by Dr. Pramod Sawant, Honโ€™ble Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Honโ€™ble Minister for Tourism, IT, E&C, Printing & Stationary, Shri Digambar Kamat, MLA โ€“ Margao Constituency; Shri Damu Naik, Ex. MLA; Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director, Department of Tourism, Shri Kuldeep Arolkar, MD, Goa Tourism Development Corporation(GTDC) and Shri Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson, Margao Municipal Council and others.

The ceremonial lamp-lighting on stage by the dignitaries set a symbolic tone for the evening, followed by the felicitation of prominent local personalities who have made significant contributions to the community. The honourees included Founder of Pastry Palace, Shri Suresh Raghuvir Phadte; Konkani Tiatrist John De Silva; renowned Writer and Director Tiatrist Roseferns; and the celebrated Chef Avinash Martins. Their dedication to their crafts and contributions to the community were warmly recognized and celebrated.

Speaking on the occasion, Honโ€™ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, emphasized the importance of celebrating local talent and traditions, stating that such events create a platform for the community to showcase their skills and creativity. In his welcome address, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director of the Department of Tourism, stated that the three-day festival will showcase Goa’s rich cultural and culinary heritage. Highlighting Goa as a paradise for food lovers, he added that this initiative aims to engage both tourists and locals in celebrating the festival.

Digamber Kamat expressed his gratitude for the festival, highlighting its role in promoting local self-help groups in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” initiative. He noted that the variety of stalls at the festival, showcasing local crafts, traditional foods, and handmade products, not only support local artisans but also provide visitors with a unique cultural experience.

The program featured an array of performances, including traditional dance acts by Kanta Gaude, which offered a glimpse into Goaโ€™s cultural roots, and a stunning musical performance by Divya Naik that left the audience spellbound. Adding to the evening’s excitement, the musical band Lynx and the group “Pure Magic” delivered high-energy performances, ensuring a memorable experience for all.

The festival will open on January 3rd with the inauguration in the esteemed presence of Dr. Pramod Sawant, Honโ€™ble Chief Minister of Goa, along with other prominent dignitaries: Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Honโ€™ble Minister for Tourism, IT, E&C, Printing & Stationary, Shri Digambar Kamat, MLA โ€“ Margao Constituency, Shri Ganesh Gaonkar, MLA – Sanvordem & Chairman GTDC, Dr. V. Raponkarancho Seafood Festival Kicks Off at Arambol Beach


The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa organised The Raponkarancho Seafood Festival commenced on a vibrant note on 13th December 2024 at the scenic Arambol Beach, celebrating Goaโ€™s rich coastal heritage and seafood culture. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Honโ€™ble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Chairman of GTDC and MLA Sanvordem Constituency Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar, and Mandrem MLA Shri Jit Arolkar and Director Tourism, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS.

The festival brought together Raponkars (traditional fishermen), dignitaries, and enthusiastic visitors, including foreign tourists, who thoroughly enjoyed the authentic seafood delicacies. Traditional Ghumots were presented to the dignitaries and foreign guests, symbolizing Goa’s cultural pride and warm hospitality.

Day 1 featured an exciting lineup of performances, including the SHINE ON band, Cosmic Sound live set, USMAN, and OG SHEZ, drawing enthusiastic participation from locals and tourists alike.

Honโ€™ble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte further highlighted the departmentโ€™s commitment. โ€œThe Raponkarancho Seafood Festival is not just a celebration of our rich culinary tradition but a platform to promote sustainable tourism. It recognizes the vital role of our fishing community in shaping Goaโ€™s coastal heritage. Mandrem MLA Shri Jit Arolkar spoke about the cultural importance of the festival, stating, โ€œThe festival is a reflection of our cultural identity and gives us an opportunity to showcase the efforts of our fishermen.โ€

Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar, Chairman of GTDC, praised the initiative, reaffirming Goaโ€™s commitment to promoting events that celebrate local heritage and traditions.

The Day 2 will feature performances by Purple Rain, Gravity Band, DJ Katrin and DJ Ivan, and day 3 will feature performances by The Imperial Band, Forefront as well as DJ Afroz Sayed and Teri Miko.

With an promising start, the festival is set to continue on 14th and 15th December 2024, offering visitors an immersive experience through cultural programs, live performances, and traditional Goan seafood delicacies.
