Heritage Festival 2025 starts off with a grand celebration of Goa’s living traditions


Saligao, 9 May 2025 — The picturesque village of Saligao came alive this evening as the much-awaited Heritage Festival 2025 officially commenced, drawing locals and visitors into a vibrant celebration of Goa’s rich cultural legacy. Organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, the three-day festival is set to run until 11th May 2025 at the Football ground, Saligao, offering an exciting lineup of traditional folk performances, live music, fashion, and more.

The inaugural evening began with soulful Goan music that set the tone for the festivities, followed by a formal inauguration and felicitation ceremony attended by dignitaries, local leaders, and cultural enthusiasts.

The festival was formally inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Shri Rohan A. Khaunte in the presence of Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade; Shri Kedar Naik, Hon’ble MLA Saligao Constituency & Vice Chairman, GSIDC; Smt Delilah Lobo, Hon’ble MLA Siolim Constituency; Shri Kedar A. Naik, Director of Tourism, and Shri Kuldeep Arolkar, Managing Director, GTDC, ZP Members and Panchayat members along with others.

It is with great pride that I announce Saligao as the permanent venue for the Heritage Festival, stated Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Shri Rohan A. Khaunte. He further added that “Goa is evolving beyond its beaches—embracing regenerative tourism that respects culture, nurtures the environment, uplifts society, and strengthens the economy. This shift is paving the way for a more sustainable and inclusive future, where tourism thrives alongside the preservation of our natural and cultural assets. The minister further stated that In Saligao, a range of infrastructure developments, with the support of the Chief Minister, will be taken forward under the Department of Tourism.

Shri Kedar Naik, Hon’ble MLA Saligao Constituency & Vice Chairman, GSIDC stated, “This is one of the most scenic constituencies in the state, home to stunning churches, temples, historic forts, and the majestic Arabian Sea. It truly is a land that offers everything. The Saligao Circle serves as a gateway to the vibrant northern coast of Goa. With its rich cultural landscape, this area is the perfect setting for a heritage festival, where tourists can immerse themselves in the authentic Goan experience.”

Smt Delilah Lobo, Hon’ble MLA Siolim Constituency said “I extend my sincere thanks to the Honourable Tourism Minister for bringing this festival Saligao constituency. I invite people from across Goa to come and celebrate our rich heritage, vibrant culture, and traditional cuisine. This truly embodies the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local,’ with various stalls set up by local self-help groups—providing a valuable platform for locals to showcase their talents and products.”

Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade also expressed his thoughts on the occasion. The vote of thanks was presented by Shri Deepak Narvekar, Dy. General Manager, Marketing, GTDC.

The evening’s cultural showcase featured the Kanta Gaude Troupe, who mesmerised the audience with a performance of the Lamp Dance and the graceful Dekhni, one of Goa’s most iconic folk dances. The highlight of the evening was a captivating fashion show curated by Verma Dmello, blending tradition with contemporary flair. The night concluded with an electrifying live performance by Sidhannath Buyao & Band, leaving the crowd energised and eager for what’s to come.

The festival grounds also hosted local self-help groups (SHGs) and artisans, offering handcrafted products, traditional Goan cuisine, and heritage exhibits — creating an immersive and authentic cultural experience for all attendees.

The Heritage Festival will continue on 10th and 11th May, with performances by Sonia Sirsat & Band, RAAGA – The Band, RASM Band, and Black Sapphire Band, along with folk dances including Goff, Veerbhadra, Jagor, and Corridinho.

The Department of Tourism welcomes everyone to be part of this unique celebration that honours Goa’s intangible cultural heritage while supporting local talent and sustainable tourism initiatives.

Department of Tourism Issues Directive on Unauthorized Yachting Activities in Goa


*Panjim, 23rd April 2025 –* The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, has issued a directive to all watersports operators conducting the activity of Yachting within the state to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982 and Rules, 1985. This directive comes in response to the growing number of operators found operating yacht activities without obtaining the necessary NOC, license or permission from the Department.

According to the official circular issued by the Department, all such operators must register their activity within 15 working days from the date of issuance of the notice. This move aims to regulate yachting services, enhance tourist safety, and ensure adherence to legal protocols.

*Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik, emphasized the importance of this step, stating,* “The Department is committed to streamlining watersports activities in the state to ensure safety, transparency, and accountability. Unregulated operations pose a risk not only to tourists but also to the environment. We urge all operators to come forward and regularize their services under the existing legal framework.”

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Department to strengthen compliance among tourism stakeholders and promote responsible tourism in line with Goa’s vision for a well-regulated and sustainable tourism ecosystem.

The Department of Tourism Announces the New Carnaval Song 2025


*Panjim, 25th February 2025* – The excitement for the 2025 Carnaval in Goa reached new heights as King Momo, accompanied by Shri Kuldeep Arolkar, Managing Director of GTDC, Shri Dhiraj Wagle, Deputy Director, South, Shri Gavin Dias, General Manager, GTDC, Shri Deepak Narvekar, Deputy General Manager, GTDC, and Shri Jayesh Kankonkar, Assistant Director, unveiled this year’s Carnaval song at a lively event at the Department of Tourism.

This year’s Carnaval promises to be bigger, brighter, and more engaging than ever before. While the Porvorim Carnaval Committee decided not to hold celebrations along the traditional route due to ongoing construction for the flyover, the community is encouraged to join in the festivities across other locations.

The new King Momo, Mr. Cleeven Mathew Fernandes will lead the grand parade, immersing the crowd in the infectious spirit of the Carnaval. This year’s event is expected to bring together locals and visitors to celebrate Goa’s vibrant music, dance, and rich cultural traditions. The Carnaval song titled ‘Viva Carnaval’ composed by Shine On Band will set the tone for the festivities, uniting people and evoking the true essence of togetherness that defines the spirit of Goa.

King Momo delivered an inspiring message to the people of Goa, emphasizing the importance of unity. “Always maintain peace and unity in Goa,” he said, encouraging everyone to come together to make this year’s Carnaval unforgettable.

In terms of safety and crowd management, event organizers, in collaboration with Goa Police, emergency services, and security personnel, have laid out a comprehensive plan. Traffic management will be well-coordinated, ensuring a smooth experience for all attendees. Visitors are advised to cooperate with authorities for a hassle-free experience.

The route for the parade will remain the same as previous years, with the flag off from the new Patto bridge till campal grounds. The officer-in-charge of the ongoing construction project on MG road, has assured that the construction work will be completed by the 26th of February, ensuring that everything is ready for the grand celebration.

Department of Tourism announces Cleeven Mathew Fernandes as the King Momo for 2025


Panaji, 17 February 2025: Goa Carnaval 2025 is all set to light up the streets with vibrant festivities, music, and merriment. The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, is delighted to announce the selection of Shri Cleeven Mathew Fernandes as this year’s King Momo.

Hailing from Benaulim, Shri Cleeven Mathew Fernandes was selected from a total of four applicants after a screening process. The judging panel, comprising a representatives of Panaji, Mapusa, Margao, and Vasco Carnival Committees; Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik; Managing Director, GTDC, Shri Kuldeep Arolkar selected the King Momo based on the personality, communication skills and presentation. General Manager, GTDC, Shri Gavin Dias; Dy General Manager, GTDC, Shri Deepak Narvekar; Assistant Director of Tourism, Shri Jayesh Kankonkar and others were also present on the occasion.

Scheduled from 28th February to 4th March 2025, the grand festivities of Goa Carnaval 2025 will feature vibrant float parades, lively music, captivating performances, and a celebration of Goa’s unique cultural heritage, drawing thousands of tourists and participants. The Department of Tourism remains committed to promoting this iconic festival as a showcase of Goa’s diverse cultural traditions.

With King Momo’s call for celebration, the state is ready to revel in the joyous spirit of Carnaval 2025—a spectacle of colour, rhythm, and festive cheer.

Department of Tourism hosts memorable sunset boat cruise tour for Polish travel agents


Panaji, 5th December 2024: The Department of Tourism in collaboration with Travel Corporation India (TCI), hosted a sunset boat cruise tour for around 30 travel agents from Poland on December 5, 2024. The event aimed to showcase Goa’s scenic beauty, rich culture and attract more tourists from Poland to Goa.

The guests were cordially welcomed at Captain’s Club, Ribander, by Shri Gavin Dias, General Manager, GTDC; Shri Deepak Narvekar, Deputy General Manager (Marketing), GTDC; Shri Shawn Mendes, OSD to the Minister for Tourism; Shri Ernest Dias, Chief operating officer, TCI and Shri Jayesh Kankonkar, Assistant Director of Tourism. The evening began with an engaging presentation by Shri Gavin Dias, spotlighting Goa’s vibrant heritage, cultural diversity, and stunning landscapes followed by the screening of a captivating video highlighting Goa’s unique hidden gems and current tourism initiatives was played, offering guests a glimpse into the state’s diverse attractions.

The highlight of the tour was a boat cruise from Ribander, offering stunning views of Old Goa and Panaji. The serene journey, with its calm waters and lush greenery, gave guests unforgettable memories as they enjoyed views of Goa’s landmarks, including the World Heritage Sites at Old Goa along with Divar Island, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, and Atal Setu, showcasing the region’s beauty and history. The guests were brought to Goa by Rainbow Tours, the charter operator that facilitates charter flights to the state, with two flights arriving every 10 days.

Recently, Department of Tourism, also successfully hosted the Goa Roadshow 2024 in Warsaw, Poland. This exclusive invite-only event showcased Goa’s rich heritage, cultural traditions, and tourism offerings, engaging Polish travel stakeholders through presentations, interactive sessions, and personalized discussions strengthening ties with the Polish travel community.

The cruise ride concluded with the travellers expressing their admiration for Goa’s natural beauty and the immersive experience curated for them. This collaboration is yet another step in promoting Goa as a global tourism hub, blending its rich traditions with modern sensibilities to create unforgettable journeys.
