DMC College Hosts Workshop on Mushroom Cultivation as Agribusiness

The Entrepreneurship and Startup Development Cell of DMC College, in association with the Department of Commerce, conducted a workshop on “Mushroom Cultivation as an Agribusiness” on 5 February 2026, aimed at encouraging entrepreneurial skills and awareness of sustainable agricultural ventures among students.


The session was led by Dr. Ashish Prabhugaonkar, Assistant Professor from the Department of Botany, Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, Goa, who served as the resource person. He explained the different types of mushrooms suitable for cultivation and discussed their nutritional value, commercial viability and growing market demand.

A hands-on practical demonstration formed the highlight of the workshop, where students were guided through the complete process of mushroom cultivation, including substrate preparation, spawning techniques and ideal growth conditions. The interactive nature of the session helped participants understand how mushroom farming can be developed into a profitable agribusiness.

A total of 38 students from DMC College attended the workshop, which was appreciated for its practical orientation and relevance to entrepreneurship, self-employment and agribusiness opportunities.

Goa University Holds 36th Convocation Ceremony at Taleigao

Goa University held its 36th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, 7 February 2026, at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao. The event marked a significant academic milestone for graduating students and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to higher education and academic excellence.


The ceremony was conducted in the august presence of Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Governor of Goa and Chancellor of Goa University. Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Degrees were conferred upon students from various faculties, celebrating their academic achievements and years of dedication. The convocation reflected the university’s role in nurturing knowledge, research and innovation while contributing to the educational development of the state.

The event concluded on a dignified note, symbolising the transition of graduates into the next phase of their professional and academic journeys, and reinforcing Goa University’s vision of fostering excellence in higher education.

B.Sc. Nursing Students Gain Exposure at Indian Red Cross Society Goa

A group of 59 B.Sc. Nursing students, accompanied by two faculty members from the Nursing Institute, Bambolim, visited the State Headquarters of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Goa, in Panaji as part of an educational exposure programme.


The students were addressed by Gaurish Dhond, Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Goa, who highlighted the core values of the Red Cross movement. He encouraged the students, as future healthcare professionals, to uphold principles of selfless service, compassion and dedication to duty. Dhond also provided an overview of the wide-ranging humanitarian activities undertaken by the Society, including disaster response, blood services and community welfare initiatives across the state.

Earlier, the General Secretary of the Society, John Aguiar, welcomed the students and faculty members. The visit included documentary films and presentations that offered a comprehensive understanding of the Red Cross’s global mission as well as its local operations and emergency response efforts.

The exposure visit aimed to sensitize nursing students to the importance of voluntary humanitarian work and inspire them to actively engage in community-based healthcare and social service initiatives in the future.

PM SHRI GHS Morpirla Students Participate in Live Screening of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026

The students of PM SHRI Government High School Morpirla had an engaging and energetic experience during the live screening of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026 (PPC 2026) held on the school campus. The event began on a high note with the PPC anthem, as students danced enthusiastically and set a vibrant tone for the programme.


During the interaction, students listened to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inspiring address, where he shared practical tips on approaching examinations with confidence, clarity, and calmness. He stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between academics, skill development, and personal interests for overall growth.

The Prime Minister encouraged students to dream big, make learning collaborative, manage time effectively, focus on skills rather than marks, move out of their comfort zones, stay stress-free, and adopt a healthy lifestyle. His message resonated strongly with students, offering reassurance and motivation during the examination season.

Headmistress Maria Murena Miranda and student Nandini Velip, who had attended Pariksha Pe Charcha in New Delhi last year, shared their experiences with the students, making the session more relatable and inspiring.

Overall, Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026 proved to be a memorable and enriching experience for both students and teachers. The students expressed enthusiasm about applying the lessons and values shared during the programme in their academic and personal lives.

Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte Welcomes International Young Chef Olympiad Delegates

Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte welcomed student delegates representing Sweden, Portugal, Jordan, the Philippines, India, Uganda and Nepal, who are participating in the 12th International Young Chef Olympiad (YCO) 2026. The interaction reflected Goa’s growing engagement with global culinary and cultural platforms.


During the meeting, the delegates presented their national flags to the Minister as a symbolic gesture of friendship, cultural exchange and international goodwill, reinforcing the spirit of culinary diplomacy that underpins the Young Chef Olympiad.

The interaction took place on the sidelines of YCO 2026, which opened in Bengaluru with a grand inaugural ceremony marked by global participation and culinary showcases. With young chefs and mentors from over 40 countries participating, the Olympiad has emerged as one of the world’s largest platforms for nurturing emerging culinary talent and fostering people-to-people connections through food and hospitality.

Speaking during the interaction, Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte noted that such global engagements align with Goa’s vision of tourism as a medium for meaningful cultural exchange. He said that culinary traditions, like travel, have the ability to transcend borders and promote understanding, collaboration and mutual respect among communities.

The delegates expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and the opportunity to engage with Goa’s tourism leadership, noting that the exchange symbolised unity through diversity and shared cultural values.

Conceived in India and now recognised globally, the International Young Chef Olympiad continues to serve as a platform where cuisine, culture and camaraderie converge. As the competition progresses across multiple cities, interactions such as these reinforce the role of hospitality and food as powerful tools for global connection.
