From Festacar to the Atlantic: A Goanโ€™s Journey of Pause and Discovery

Written by Intern Queeny George M.H , Team Allycaral

For 25 years, Festacar was my way of giving back to Goa โ€” a festival that brought communities together, celebrating our culture and grassroots traditions. But after a quarter of a century, I felt the need to pause, to celebrate in a different way. That pause led me aboard the MSC Virtuosa, a floating city of lights, music, and discovery.

The ship itself was a marvel. Its glowing LED-domed promenade, buzzing cafรฉs, and vast decks became my sanctuary. For the first time in years, I wasnโ€™t planning, coordinating, or giving. I was simply letting the sea carry me.

Our first stop was La Coruรฑa, Spain. The city greeted me with a rare blend of history and vibrancy. Standing before the Tower of Hercules, the worldโ€™s oldest functioning lighthouse, I felt the weight of centuries. Like Goaโ€™s own traditions, this lighthouse has endured โ€” steady, timeless, and unyielding.

In the Old Town, I wandered through cobblestone streets lined with glass-fronted Galician houses. I stopped for pulpo a la gallega โ€” octopus dressed with olive oil and paprika. Simple, rustic, yet profound. Much like Goaโ€™s food, it carried the soul of its land and people.

The journey then took me inland to Santiago de Compostela, the final destination for countless pilgrims walking the Camino. Watching them arrive at the cathedral โ€” weary yet radiant with joy โ€” was deeply moving. Their faces held exhaustion, meaning, and triumph. Inside, the cathedralโ€™s golden altars shimmered with centuries of devotion, filling me with an unexpected peace.

Later, I walked along Riazor Beach. The Atlantic breeze washed over me, and I realized: after years of giving through Festacar, this was my time to receive. The ocean, the culture, the people, and the stories were now filling me with renewal.

As the Virtuosa sailed away that evening, I carried with me more than memories of Galicia. I carried the reminder that travel is not only about discovering new places, but also about rediscovering ourselves.

ย In a shocking and heartbreaking incident, Shankar, a 40-year-old professional, died of a sudden cardiac arrest just minutes after texting his manager to request sick leave.

At 8:37 am, Shankar sent a message to his manager, KV Iyyer:
โ€œSir, due to heavy back pain, I am unable to come today. So please grant me leave.โ€

His manager responded casually, treating it as a routine request:
โ€œOkay, you take a rest.โ€

Barely ten minutes later, at 8:47 am, Shankar collapsed at his home and passed away from cardiac arrest.

Netizens React with Shock

KV Iyyer shared the incident on X, and the post quickly went viral. Social media users reacted with grief, disbelief, and concern:

  • โ€œShocking indeed and also very tragic considering his age and family. May his aatma attain sadgati. Om shanti.โ€
  • โ€œExtremely tragic. Also, nice of you to visit him personally. May his soul rest in peace.โ€
  • โ€œSir, in cases of cardiac arrest, no medical aid can help. Itโ€™s just like a sudden electricity shutdown. Very tragic.โ€

Colleagues described Shankar as โ€œhealthy and fit.โ€ He avoided smoking and alcohol, lived a disciplined life, and had been with his company for six years. He is survived by his wife and young child.

Rising Cardiac Arrest Cases in India

This case has reignited concerns about the growing incidence of sudden cardiac arrest among relatively young and seemingly healthy individuals in India.

  • According to cardiologists, lifestyle stress, undiagnosed heart conditions, and lack of preventive screening contribute to these cases.
  • Unlike a heart attack, a cardiac arrest often strikes without warning, making immediate CPR and emergency response critical.

Shankarโ€™s sudden demise is not just a personal tragedy but a wake-up call for professionals across India to prioritize health over work and deadlines. Experts stress the importance of:

  • Regular health check-ups
  • Awareness of symptoms like chest pain, unexplained fatigue, or back pain
  • Learning CPR to respond in emergencies

As tributes pour in, Shankarโ€™s story serves as a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need to address Indiaโ€™s growing heart health crisis.

Sumit Nagal Helps India Beat Switzerland for Davis Cup 2025 Qualifiers Spot

Written by Intern Queeny George M.H , Team Allycaral

India scripted a memorable chapter in its tennis history on Saturday by defeating ninth-seeded Switzerland 3-1 in their Davis Cup 2025 World Group I tie at the Swiss Tennis Arena in Biel. This landmark victory has booked the Indian team a spot in the 2026 Davis Cup Qualifiers, scheduled for early next year. More significantly, it marks Indiaโ€™s first win against a European nation on their home soil in over three decadesโ€”since 1993 when the team famously beat France 3-2 in the quarter-finals with legends Leander Paes and Ramesh Krishnan.

Heading into the second day of the tie with a 2-0 lead, thanks to opening-day singles victories by Dhakshineswar Suresh and Sumit Nagal, India needed just one more win to close out the contest. However, the doubles pair of N Sriram Balaji and Rithvik Bollipalli couldnโ€™t seal the deal, falling to Jakub Paul and Dominic Stricker in a tightly contested three-setter. Despite taking the first set via a tiebreak, the Indian duo was broken late in the second and third sets, resulting in a 6(3)-7(7), 6-4, 7-5 loss that lasted two hours and 21 minutes.

With the tie still open, Switzerland brought in 18-year-old Henry Bernet to face Indiaโ€™s top singles player, Sumit Nagal. Unfazed by the pressure, Nagal delivered a clinical performance, breaking Bernet three times in the opening set and once in the second to secure a commanding 6-1, 6-3 win. His victory ensured that India would advance to the 2026 Qualifiers, a significant milestone considering the team had not progressed beyond World Group I since the Davis Cup format was revamped in 2019.

India, a three-time Davis Cup runner-up in 1966, 1974, and 1987, continues to chase the elusive title. With this victory, the team not only progresses to the next stage but also boosts confidence in its younger players and sets the stage for a strong campaign next year.
