SBI launches an investigation into a suspected data breach as concerns grow over customer privacy and cybersecurity.
Personal data allegedly belonging to nearly 3,900 customers of the State Bank of India (SBI) has reportedly surfaced on the dark web, raising concerns about data privacy and the security of customer information.
The reportedly exposed information includes customersโ phone numbers, residential addresses, email IDs and dates of birth. The incident is being investigated as a suspected data breach.
SBI has reportedly initiated an investigation to determine the source and extent of the alleged exposure and whether any of its systems or customer information have been affected.
As of the information currently available, there is no evidence that customersโ bank accounts or funds have been compromised. However, the exposure of personal information can still create risks, including targeted phishing attacks, impersonation and fraudulent calls or messages.
Customers should remain vigilant and avoid sharing OTPs, PINs, passwords or banking credentials with anyone. They should also be cautious of unsolicited calls, emails and messages claiming to represent the bank, particularly those creating urgency or requesting sensitive information.
Customers who notice suspicious transactions or receive unusual banking-related communications should contact SBI through its official channels and report any suspected fraud promptly.
The incident highlights the importance of protecting personal information and strengthening cybersecurity measures in the banking sector. While the investigation is ongoing, customers should exercise caution without assuming that their bank accounts have been accessed.
Important: The alleged data exposure and the reported investigation have not been independently verified for this article. Further updates should be based on official SBI statements and credible cybersecurity reporting.
