GCCI Holds Industry Meeting on Peak-Hour Power Shedding; Further Discussions Scheduled

Panaji, October 3, 2026: Following directions issued by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant after a representation by GCCI President Ms. Pratima Dhond, the Chief Electrical Engineer convened a meeting with industry representatives to discuss the ongoing issue of peak-hour power shedding in Goa.

The meeting was held on October 3, 2026, at 10.30 a.m. at Vidyut Bhavan, Panaji, and was chaired by Chief Electrical Engineer Shri Stephen Fernandes.

Representatives of 30 major industries in Goa participated in the meeting.

GCCI Delegation Participates in Meeting

GCCI was represented by Dr. Sangam Kurade, Vice President; Mr. Gerard Dโ€™Mello, Chairman โ€“ GCCI Infrastructure Committee; Mr. Rohan Pai Angle, Co-Chair โ€“ GCCI Infrastructure Committee; and Mr. Kiran Ballikar, Director, GCCI.

The meeting followed GCCIโ€™s earlier representation seeking urgent intervention over peak-hour power shedding affecting industrial operations in the state.

Power Situation Yet to Improve

During the meeting, the Chief Electrical Engineer informed industry representatives that the power situation had not improved and that further load shedding may become necessary.

According to the information shared during the meeting, one option under consideration is to purchase the additional 80 MW required during peak hours at a cost of approximately โ‚น20 to โ‚น22 per unit.

Another option discussed was purchasing the shortfall power on a round-the-clock basis at approximately โ‚น10 per unit.

The alternatives were discussed in the context of addressing the state’s peak-hour power requirement and the financial implications for industrial consumers.

Industry Seeks Equitable Sharing of Additional Cost

Industry representatives attending the meeting requested that the additional cost associated with peak-power procurement be shared equitably between the top power consumers and the Government.

The Chief Electrical Engineer informed the meeting that data would be tabulated to determine the additional cost applicable to the top power consumers.

Based on the preliminary calculation shared at the meeting, the additional cost was indicated at approximately โ‚น1.50 per unit during normal hours and โ‚น3 per unit during peak hours.

The final impact would be worked out based on the relevant consumption data.

Government Discussions on October 5

The Chief Electrical Engineer informed the industry representatives that he would hold discussions with the Government on Monday, October 5, 2026, along with the detailed calculations and data.

A further meeting with industry stakeholders has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 10.30 a.m. at Vidyut Bhavan, Panaji.

The upcoming discussions are expected to focus on the additional power requirement, procurement costs and the possible financial impact on major industrial consumers.

GCCI expressed its appreciation to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for his continued attention to the matter and for facilitating discussions between the Government and industry stakeholders.
