CM Pramod Sawant Pays Floral Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Old Goa on Gandhi Jayanti

Old Goa, Goa: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Old Goa on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, commemorating the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.

The Chief Minister garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and offered floral tributes at the ceremony held at Old Goa. The occasion brought together senior public representatives and government officials to honour Gandhi’s legacy and his enduring message of truth and non-violence.

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister of State for Power Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Cumbarjua MLA Shri Rajesh Faldessai, Chief Secretary Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS, and North Goa Collector Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, among other dignitaries.

Gandhi Jayanti is observed across India every year on October 2 to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was born on October 2, 1869. The day also coincides with the International Day of Non-Violence, observed by the United Nations in recognition of Gandhi’s philosophy and global influence.

Old Goa has hosted Goa’s state-level Gandhi Jayanti commemorations in association with the local village panchayat in previous years. Official Goa Government records document similar tributes at the Gandhi statue in Old Goa, with the Chief Minister leading the ceremony alongside other dignitaries.

The observance serves as an opportunity to remember Gandhi’s principles of Satya (truth) and Ahimsa (non-violence) and their continuing relevance to public life and society.

The dignitaries’ participation at Old Goa marked a solemn tribute to one of India’s most influential leaders and his contribution to the nation’s freedom movement.
