Mumbai: Actor Vivek Oberoi shared an emotional moment with Sahara Shah at a Cancer Rose Day event in Mumbai on September 22, as she announced her upcoming acting debut in a Nepali film.
Sahara, whom Vivek adopted when she was just two-and-a-half years old while she was undergoing cancer treatment, is now 22 and cancer-free. She has recently completed her aviation training and is preparing to take another major step by entering the film industry.
At the event, Sahara announced that she intends to follow in her adoptive father’s footsteps and pursue acting. She revealed that she is set to play the lead actress in a Nepali film and wanted Vivek’s blessings before formally taking the next step.
“I completed my aviation training. I’ll see you soon in Dubai, and I don’t think we’ll have distance between us anymore. I’m playing a lead actress in a film. It’s a Nepali film. I haven’t signed yet. I wanted to take your blessing,” Sahara said.
Addressing Vivek, whom she affectionately calls “dada”, she spoke about the actor’s influence on her life and his constant encouragement to explore acting, dancing and other interests.
She credited his support with giving her the confidence to dream bigger for herself and her mother. Sahara also acknowledged the emotional role Vivek has played in her life, saying that he filled the void left by her father.
“Gifting this to him feels like such a small thing because it’s nothing compared to what you’ve done for me. It’s all been possible because of you. There’s so much love and affection for you. I’m so overwhelmed,” she said.
Vivek was visibly emotional as he embraced Sahara and watched her take the next step in her career. He applauded as she signed her debut film on stage, with the film’s poster unveiled during the event.
“This is a very proud moment for me. I want you to fly high in your career, and do very well in films. I feel so happy. God bless you, beta. Never forget you’re a winner. You fought against cancer, and are a happy achiever in life today,” Vivek said.
Reflecting on Sahara’s journey, Vivek recalled meeting her when she was two-and-a-half years old and undergoing chemotherapy. He remembered seeing determination in her despite her illness and said he believed she would overcome cancer.
Vivek also recalled how Sahara would hold his finger during that difficult period and said he prayed for her every day. Seeing her now cancer-free and pursuing her ambitions through her own efforts, he expressed his pride in the journey she has undertaken.
Sahara’s announcement marked an emotional milestone, bringing together her journey from battling cancer as a child to completing aviation training and now preparing to make her debut on screen.
