PANAJI: Captain Aryan Narvekar’s fighting half-century helped Goa recover from early setbacks as they reached 144 for five in 57 overs at stumps on the second day of their Men’s Under-23 Multidays Practice League match against Gujarat at Gujarat College Cricket Ground A in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Goa were chasing Gujarat’s imposing first-innings total of 471 for nine declared and found themselves in early trouble at 22 for two.
Narvekar then provided the stability Goa needed. The captain first combined with Nisarg Nagvekar to take the score to 70 before continuing to anchor the innings through a challenging period.
Narvekar displayed good composure in scoring 50 off 79 balls, hitting six boundaries and a six. His knock provided Goa with an important platform after the early wickets.
Aman Dhooper contributed 21 before being dismissed, while Dishank Prabhu Misquin and Jeevan Chittem remained unbeaten on 14 and 21 respectively at the close of play.
Earlier, Goa’s bowlers had worked hard to bring Gujarat’s first innings to an end after the hosts resumed the day at 383 for seven. Gujarat added 88 runs before declaring at 471 for nine.
Raj Raghwani, who was unbeaten on 142 overnight, continued his outstanding innings before being dismissed for 196, adding 54 runs to his overnight score. Kavyan Patel added six more runs before being dismissed for 65.
For Goa, Rahul Vishwakarma was the leading wicket-taker with 3/53, while left-arm spinner Anuj Yadav claimed 3/170. Deep Kasvankar took two wickets and Shiven Borkar one.
Goa will resume on the final day at 144/5, with Dishank Prabhu Misquin and Jeevan Chittem at the crease.
