Mapusa, Goa | August 29, 2026: A blood donation drive organised at Vision Hospital, Mapusa, brought together healthcare professionals, hospital staff, security personnel and community volunteers in an effort to support the availability of blood for patients in need.
The drive was conducted in collaboration with Loving Hearts Goa and North Goa District Hospital, Asilo Blood Bank, on August 29, 2026.
The initiative received an encouraging response from hospital staff as well as personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Airport Security Group (ASG) Unit at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, Goa.
22 donors successfully contribute
A total of 31 people registered for the blood donation drive. Following the required medical screening, 22 individuals were found eligible and successfully donated blood.
The participation highlighted the willingness of members of the community and frontline personnel to contribute towards an essential healthcare need.
Each successful blood donation can potentially help patients requiring blood during medical emergencies, surgeries and other critical treatments.
Collaborative community initiative
The drive was led by Mr. Intekhab Shaikh, Hospital Administrator, Vision Hospital, who initiated and coordinated the camp along with Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Secretary, Loving Hearts Goa, and Mr. Mark D’Souza, President, Loving Hearts Goa.
The North Goa District Hospital Blood Bank team provided the necessary medical support and ensured that the donation process was carried out safely and smoothly.
The collaboration between a healthcare institution, voluntary organisation and blood bank demonstrated the importance of coordinated community initiatives in addressing healthcare needs.
Appreciation for Vision Hospital
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mark D’Souza, President of Loving Hearts Goa, expressed gratitude to Dr. Chandrakant Shetye for providing Loving Hearts Goa with the opportunity to conduct the blood donation drive at Vision Hospital.
He also appreciated the hospital’s continued commitment to public service and its support for initiatives aimed at improving community well-being.
The importance of voluntary blood donation
The successful drive once again highlighted the vital role of voluntary blood donors in maintaining an adequate blood supply.
With hospitals and blood banks regularly requiring donations to meet patient needs, community-driven blood donation programmes can help strengthen local blood reserves.
