Panaji: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has expressed deep concern over the devastating floods in Nepal, describing the scale of destruction as “unbearable to watch” as rescue and relief efforts continue across affected areas.
The 83-year-old actor shared his thoughts on the disaster through his blog, reflecting on the overwhelming force of nature and calling for prayers as the extent of the tragedy continues to emerge.
“On a more serious note, the devastation of the floods in Nepal are unbearable to watch,” Bachchan wrote, adding that the fury of nature cannot be battled and that its power demands respect.
Severe devastation across Nepal
Nepal has been facing the aftermath of severe flash floods that swept through Rasuwa and other parts of central Nepal following an ice-and-rock avalanche linked to a glacial collapse near the China border.
The powerful flow of water, mud and debris reportedly damaged homes, vehicles, roads and bridges, while several settlements were severely affected.
Reports cited in the supplied information put the death toll at at least 475, with nearly 1,500 people reported missing. Rescue operations have continued amid disruptions to transportation and communication.
Bollywood voices solidarity
Bachchan was among several film personalities who expressed grief and concern over the disaster.
Farhan Akhtar shared messages of support and raised awareness about the situation, including helpline information.
Bhumi Pednekar shared visuals from affected areas and expressed solidarity with victims while circulating emergency helpline details.
Kangana Ranaut also reacted to the tragedy on X, drawing attention to the devastation on the China side of the border as well.
Actor Sonu Sood offered assistance to people stranded or affected by the disaster, saying he would support efforts involving food, shelter and other assistance.
Nepali actor Manisha Koirala, meanwhile, shared images and videos from the disaster and paid tribute to those who lost their lives while asking followers to pray for her homeland.
Sanjay Dutt also shared a message of support and prayers for those whose lives have been affected by the floods.
Concern for Indians and visitors in Nepal
The disaster has also raised concerns about people travelling or working in Nepal.
Bengali actor Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife Pratibha Mukherjee were among those whose travel plans were disrupted. The couple had travelled to Nepal for a film shoot and were in Pokhara when heavy rainfall affected their plans to return.
Their son, Tamaghna Mukherjee, subsequently shared an update saying that both were safe and out of danger.
According to the information shared by the family, the couple had travelled to Nepal as part of a production team for a Bangladeshi film. Their return was delayed because of the weather situation.
A call for prayers and support
As rescue teams continue to work in difficult conditions, the disaster has triggered an outpouring of concern from across the region.
Bachchan’s comments underline the human dimension of the tragedy, while messages from actors and public figures have helped draw attention to the situation and the need for assistance.
With communities facing loss, displacement and disrupted connectivity, relief and rescue efforts remain focused on reaching those affected and accounting for people who remain missing.
