Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon has responded to the recent social media chatter surrounding her Raksha Bandhan advertisement with a subtle yet witty post.
Amid criticism and trolling over the outfit she wore in a Raksha Bandhan campaign, Kriti chose to shift the focus back to what the festival means to her — the bond she shares with her sister, Nupur Sanon.
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Kriti shared a photograph showing only the hands of the two sisters. Both were seen wearing rakhis, while holding hands in a simple yet affectionate picture.
However, it was her caption that caught the attention of fans and social media users.
“While the Rakhi fashion committee is still in session 🙈 We’re focusing on what really matters. ♥️👭 Happy Rakhi to all ♥️,” Kriti wrote.
The caption appeared to be a playful reference to the ongoing discussion around her clothing in the Raksha Bandhan advertisement. Rather than directly addressing the criticism again, the actor used humour to make her point.
Kriti’s post came after her Raksha Bandhan campaign faced backlash online, with several users questioning her outfit and the portrayal of the festival. The controversy had also drawn reactions from actor and politician Kangana Ranaut.
Kriti, however, appeared to make it clear through her latest post that she was choosing to focus on the festival, family and her relationship with her sister rather than the ongoing social media debate.
Fans were quick to support the actor in the comments section. Many praised her response and described it as a smart and graceful way to deal with trolling.
Comments included messages such as “More power to you girls,” “The best reply,” and “That is how you laugh at the trolls.”
The post has once again put the spotlight on the debate surrounding women, fashion and the expectations often placed on celebrities during cultural and religious celebrations.
For Kriti and Nupur, however, this Raksha Bandhan appeared to be about keeping the focus where it belongs — on the bond between two sisters.
