Mapusa: St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, celebrated Sadbhavana Diwas 2026 on August 17 under the theme “Many Paths, One Humanity.”
Organised by the College’s AICUF unit, the programme aimed to promote communal harmony, national integration and mutual respect among people belonging to diverse religions, cultures, languages and traditions.
The celebration was held at the Seminar Hall and began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. This was followed by addresses from the Administrator, Rev. Fr. Antonio Salema, and Officiating Principal, Ms. Ursula Barreto.
A major highlight of the programme was the Interfaith Scripture Reading and Reflection, which brought together student representatives from three different faith traditions.
Ms. Donella Angel Fernandes, Ms. Kashish Shaikh and Ms. Sneha Subhash Sawai shared readings and reflections centred on the universal values of peace, understanding, harmony and humanity.
The programme also featured a series of cultural performances celebrating unity and diversity. The college choir presented an a cappella rendition of the popular song “Heal the World.” A solo dance performance was presented by Ms. Gresal, while Ms. Divyashree of SYBCA performed the patriotic song “Ae Watan, Tere Liye.”
The Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Elvis Hilton Fernandes SFX, Convenor of SADBHAV Pilar, spoke about India’s rich cultural and linguistic diversity. He reflected on the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — the world is one family, highlighting the importance of recognising shared humanity despite differences in faith, culture and identity.
The vote of thanks was proposed by programme coordinator Ms. Lizanne.
The celebration concluded with the Sadbhavana Pledge, Sadbhavana Vote and the National Anthem.
Students, AICUF members, NSS volunteers, faculty members and the organising team participated in the programme, which provided a meaningful platform to celebrate diversity and reaffirm the values of peace, dialogue, fraternity and mutual respect.
The theme, “Many Paths, One Humanity,” reflected the central message of the celebration — that while communities may follow different traditions and beliefs, the values of compassion, peace and human dignity unite everyone.
