Panaji: The State-level celebration of the 12th National Handloom Day was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji, with Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant attending and addressing the gathering.
The event was organised by the Department of Handicrafts, Textile & Coir, Government of Goa, to recognise the contribution of handloom weavers, artisans and craftsmen while promoting India’s rich textile heritage.
During the programme, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of preserving traditional crafts and supporting local artisans who continue to keep Goa’s cultural legacy alive through their handmade creations.
As part of the celebration, Dr. Pramod Sawant visited the handloom exhibition stalls set up at the venue. The exhibition featured a wide range of handloom products and handicrafts created by local artisans, showcasing Goa’s creativity, craftsmanship and traditional skills.
The event brought together artisans, government officials and stakeholders involved in promoting the handloom and handicraft sector.
Those present on the occasion included Secretary (Handicrafts, Textile & Coir) Shri Nikhil Dessai, IAS; Director of Handicrafts, Textile & Coir Shri Sagun Velip; Project Director (DRDA), North Goa Smt. Deepali Naik, along with other dignitaries.
National Handloom Day is observed annually to honour India’s handloom community and encourage awareness about sustainable, traditional textile practices.
The celebration in Goa reflected the state government’s efforts towards empowering artisans, promoting indigenous products and strengthening the handloom sector.
