‘Ramayana’ Trailer Launch Postponed as Makers Prepare Global Release with Sony Pictures
The makers of Ramayana, one of the most anticipated Indian films in recent years, have postponed the launch of the film’s much-awaited trailer following a landmark global distribution partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Producer Namit Malhotra announced the development on social media, describing the collaboration as a defining moment for Indian cinema and revealing that the delay is part of a broader international rollout strategy.
Sharing his excitement, Malhotra said his long-cherished dream of taking Ramayana to audiences around the world is finally becoming a reality.
“Today is a very special moment for our Ramayana. My dream of taking Ramayana to the world is now a reality with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment.”
He added that the film aims to present Indian storytelling on the same scale as major Hollywood productions, allowing global audiences to experience India’s rich cultural heritage.
The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The ambitious mythological epic is being produced on an unprecedented scale and is widely regarded as one of the biggest cinematic projects ever undertaken in India.
Earlier this month, the makers introduced the cast during a grand promotional event in Delhi. The film’s trailer was also showcased at Comic-Con San Diego 2026, offering international audiences a glimpse of the epic production.
In another major development, co-producers Namit Malhotra’s DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations have partnered with Dharma Productions, which will oversee the film’s distribution across India.
Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled for a theatrical release during Diwali 2026, while Part 2 is expected to release in 2027.
