Morpirla, Goa: PM Shri Government High School, Morpirla has brought pride to Goa by securing the 10th rank at the national level in the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025-26, a prestigious recognition for excellence in school cleanliness, environmental sustainability, greenery, and water management.
The school has been recognised for creating a safe, healthy and eco-friendly learning environment through initiatives including rainwater harvesting, solar panels, kitchen gardens, proper waste management, biodiversity conservation, safe drinking water facilities, clean toilets, dedicated CWSN-friendly toilets, handwashing stations, and Mission LiFE activities.
Former Headmistress and National Awardee Maria Murena Miranda expressed her happiness over the achievement, stating that although the results were announced later than expected, the recognition was a proud moment for the entire school community.
She credited the success to the collective efforts of teachers, students, parents, and the local community, who worked together to build a sustainable and environmentally conscious campus.
Miranda also highlighted that the school focused on bringing meaningful behavioural changes among first-generation tribal learners, particularly by promoting girls’ menstrual hygiene, nutrition awareness, sanitation practices, and environmental responsibility.
The SHVR assessment recognises schools that successfully integrate cleanliness, sustainability, water conservation, and environmental education into everyday school life while creating healthy spaces for students to learn and grow.
As part of the national recognition, PM Shri GHS Morpirla will receive a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with a certificate of excellence. The official award ceremony is scheduled to be held in New Delhi.
The achievement further strengthens Goa’s reputation for promoting sustainable education and demonstrates how schools can become models of environmental stewardship while nurturing responsible future citizens.
