Panaji: The Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) has been honoured with the Goa Leadership Awards 2026 in the category of Best Grassroots Impact and Community Service, recognising over two decades of dedicated work towards empowering persons with disabilities and promoting an inclusive society.
Founded as Goa’s first organisation led by and for persons with disabilities, DRAG has been working tirelessly for the past 22 years to bring people with disabilities into the mainstream by advocating for equal rights, accessibility, dignity, and social inclusion.
Receiving the prestigious recognition, Avelino de Sa, President of the Disability Rights Association of Goa, expressed gratitude for the honour while reiterating the organisation’s commitment to creating a more inclusive Goa.
Speaking on the occasion, he appealed to citizens, institutions, and stakeholders to join hands with the association in building an accessible and inclusive society where persons with disabilities enjoy equal opportunities and their constitutional rights.
“We call upon everyone to support our mission of making Goa an inclusive and accessible society where persons with disabilities are given their rights and are not looked upon as objects of charity,” said Avelino de Sa.
The award recognises DRAG’s continuous efforts in disability rights advocacy, awareness, accessibility initiatives, policy engagement, and community empowerment. Over the years, the organisation has played a significant role in promoting equal participation of persons with disabilities across education, employment, public infrastructure, and social life.
The Goa Leadership Awards 2026 honour organisations and individuals making a meaningful impact across various sectors, and DRAG’s recognition highlights the growing importance of disability inclusion and community-driven social development in Goa.
