Reinforcing its commitment to grassroots football development, the Sinquerim Sports Club GFDC Poira Centre organised a football jersey distribution ceremony at the Chowgule Company Ground, bringing together young trainees, coaches, parents, and dignitaries in a celebration of sporting excellence and youth development.

The event was attended by Premendra Shet, Chairman of the Goa State Horticultural Corporation, as Chief Guest, along with Lawjyo Gomes, GFDC Assistant Technical Director, Sunil Govekar, President of Sinquerim Sports Club, Vishwas Chodankar, former Sarpanch of Mayem Vaiguenim Panchayat, Alok Kouthambikar, Physical Education Teacher at Poira High School, Anand Adpaikar of Sesa Academy, and Laxman Hadfadkar, Centre Head.

Addressing the gathering, Premendra Shet praised the Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) for nurturing young football talent across the state. He acknowledged the efforts made to strengthen football infrastructure in the region and credited the support of former Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar for establishing the centre.

“We have developed three football grounds in the Mayem constituency, and this infrastructure has significantly helped football in the region. GFDC has been continuously supporting the sport through such training centres, enabling children to realise their sporting potential,” Shet said.

He urged young footballers to remain committed to their training, emphasising that success in football demands discipline, perseverance, and consistent practice.

“To become a good player, you need to dedicate time every day. Build your stamina, sharpen your skills, and keep improving yourself until you achieve excellence. This is the foundation that will shape your future,” he advised.

Shet also highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, encouraging trainees to stay away from harmful habits and adopt disciplined eating patterns.

“Football requires agility and fitness. This is your learning phase. Listen to your coaches, work hard, and we hope to see many of you represent Goa and India in the future,” he added.

GFDC Assistant Technical Director Lawjyo Gomes echoed similar sentiments, encouraging the children to stay focused and learn from the world’s best footballers.

“Players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi became legends through relentless practice and discipline. Consistency is the key to success. Watch matches, learn from your coaches, and always strive to improve,” Gomes said.

He congratulated the girls from the Poira Centre for finishing as runners-up at the Khelo India competition, describing the achievement as a testament to their dedication and the quality of coaching provided at the centre.

“The Centre Head, Laxman Hadfadkar, and all the coaches are working tirelessly for your development. Continue giving your best, and we hope to see players from this centre proudly representing India in the years to come,” he said.

The jersey distribution ceremony highlighted GFDC’s continued efforts to strengthen grassroots football by providing young players with quality training, infrastructure, motivation, and opportunities to pursue the sport professionally. The event concluded with an enthusiastic interaction between the dignitaries, coaches, parents, and budding footballers, reinforcing a shared vision of building the future of Goan football.
