Rajkummar Rao’s First Look as Sourav Ganguly Divides Internet; Fans Call Him ‘Misfit’ in Dada Poster

The makers of Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story unveiled the much-awaited first-look poster on July 8, coinciding with former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly’s birthday. While the announcement generated excitement among cricket and cinema lovers alike, Rajkummar Rao’s appearance in the poster has divided social media.

The poster recreates Ganguly’s iconic shirt-waving celebration from the Lord’s balcony after India’s historic NatWest Trophy victory over England in 2002—one of the most memorable moments in Indian cricket.

Soon after its release, social media platforms were flooded with reactions. Many fans praised the decision to bring Ganguly’s inspiring journey to the silver screen, expressing confidence in Rajkummar Rao’s acting abilities.

One user wrote, “If Rajkummar nails Ganguly’s cover drive and that famous step-out six, this will be a blockbuster.”

Another fan commented that Ganguly’s life story deserves a cinematic adaptation and looked forward to watching one of India’s greatest captains on screen.

However, not everyone was convinced.

Several users criticised Rajkummar Rao’s first look, calling it “AI-generated” and suggesting that he doesn’t resemble the former Indian skipper. Others questioned the casting, with some describing the actor as a “misfit” for the role despite acknowledging his acting talent.

The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg. Presented by T-Series, the sports biopic is scheduled to hit theatres on May 14, 2027.

With one of Indian cricket’s most celebrated stories set to unfold on the big screen, all eyes are now on whether Rajkummar Rao’s performance can win over sceptics once the film releases.
