CM Vijay and Sankgeetha Divorce Case Adjourned, Next Hearing Scheduled for August 7

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay’s divorce case with his estranged wife Sankgeetha Sornalingam was heard at the Chengalpattu Mahila Court on Monday morning. Following the hearing, the court adjourned the matter to August 7, with the proceedings remaining ongoing.

The divorce petition was originally filed by Sankgeetha in February. In her plea, she alleged that Vijay had been involved in an extramarital relationship, which she claimed came to her attention in 2021. According to the petition, Vijay assured her that the relationship would end, but she alleged that it continued despite those assurances.

The petition further stated that Vijay allegedly attended events and travelled with the woman concerned, causing emotional distress to Sankgeetha and their children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. She also claimed that photographs of Vijay with the female actor were shared publicly on social media, leading to humiliation and mental trauma for the family.

Sankgeetha’s petition additionally alleged that Vijay withdrew certain facilities previously available to her and imposed financial and movement-related restrictions. She cited severe mental trauma as grounds for seeking divorce under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act.

The case was initially listed for hearing on April 20. After both parties failed to appear during the earlier proceedings, the Chengalpattu family court directed Vijay and Sankgeetha to be present on June 15. Following Monday’s hearing, the court scheduled the next hearing for August 7.

Vijay and Sankgeetha were married in 2000 and have been together for over two decades before initiating divorce proceedings.

On the professional front, Vijay recently achieved a significant political milestone after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), secured a historic victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10.

Meanwhile, Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, continues to await certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), with reports suggesting that certain scenes have been flagged for review.
