A comprehensive wellness initiative titled “Swasth Police – Sashakth Police Program” was organised at Central Jail Colvale on May 26 for police personnel and prison staff.
The program was jointly organised by Goa Police, VIANAAR Group, IMA Bicholim, and Telemedicine Society of India Goa Chapter with the aim of promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, stress management, and awareness on substance abuse among uniformed personnel.
K. R. Chaurasia, Inspector General of Prisons Goa and Inspector General of Police Goa, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Sucheta B. Dessai was present as the Special Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Chaurasia highlighted the importance of maintaining physical and mental health among police and prison staff, stressing the need for discipline, balanced living, and emotional resilience in uniformed services. Ms. Dessai appreciated the initiative and its focus on wellness and stress management for personnel working in demanding environments.
The inaugural session began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. During the event, mobility support aids were presented to two needy inmates by Jones Samuel of VIANAAR Group in the presence of Central Jail authorities. A Certificate of Appreciation was also presented to Central Jail Colvale.
A major highlight of the event was an awareness session conducted by Dr. Shekhar Salkar, President of IMA Bicholim and President of the National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE). Speaking on tobacco control, drugs, and substance abuse, Dr. Salkar stressed the dangers of smoking and addiction.

Additional health awareness sessions were conducted by Dr. Devdutt Sail, Dr. Gaurav Desai, and Dr. Vishakha Moghe, covering topics such as telemedicine, Ayurveda-based wellness, yoga, stress relief, and preventive healthcare.
The program was compered by Mr. Vilas Parab, Officer at Central Jail Colvale, while the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Sucheta B. Dessai.
