Residents of Mumbai may soon get relief from the summer heat as the southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in the city between June 5 and June 10, 2026, according to forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather department has indicated that the monsoon is likely to make its onset over Kerala around May 26 before gradually advancing northward along India’s western coastline.
If weather conditions remain favourable, the monsoon is expected to reach Mumbai within approximately 10 days after touching Kerala.
The approaching monsoon is expected to bring increased cloud cover, pre-monsoon showers, humid winds, and a gradual drop in temperatures across the city. Residents can also expect occasional thunderstorms and changing weather patterns in the coming days as the rainy season approaches.
Mumbai typically witnesses heavy rainfall during the southwest monsoon season, which plays a crucial role in replenishing water reservoirs and supporting agriculture across the region.
The IMD continues to monitor atmospheric and oceanic conditions closely and is expected to issue further updates regarding the monsoon’s progress over the next few days.
The arrival of the monsoon is eagerly awaited every year in Mumbai, not only for relief from intense heat but also for the iconic rainy season atmosphere that transforms the city.
