Hemophilia Society Panaji Chapter Observes World Hemophilia Day 2026 With Awareness Programme

The Hemophilia Society Panaji Chapter observed World Hemophilia Day 2026 on May 17 in Panaji with an awareness and patient education programme centred around this year’s global theme, “Diagnosis is the First Step to Care.”

The event witnessed the participation of nearly 40 patients and parents, bringing together members of the hemophilia community for discussions, guidance and awareness on managing bleeding disorders effectively.

Chief Guest Avelino D’Sa appreciated the continuous efforts of the society in supporting persons living with hemophilia and other rare bleeding disorders while also spreading awareness within the wider community.

During the educational session, Dr. Samidha Fadte from Goa Medical College interacted with patients and parents, guiding them on the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment and preventive healthcare practices.

The session focused on improving awareness about hemophilia management, reducing complications and enhancing the overall quality of life for affected individuals and their families.

Society Advocacy Ambassador Prakash Kamat highlighted the urgent need to improve access to corrective and orthopedic surgeries for persons with hemophilia in Goa. He pointed out that although treatment facilities have improved considerably over the years, several patients continue to struggle with joint damage and long-term disabilities caused by delayed or limited access to treatment during earlier stages of their lives.

The programme also served as an important support platform where patients and families could interact with one another, share personal experiences and receive guidance regarding treatment, rehabilitation and supportive care.

World Hemophilia Day is observed globally each year to increase awareness about hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders while encouraging improved access to diagnosis, treatment and healthcare support.
