The Final Day Function of the 42nd Mines Safety Week 2025–26 was celebrated in Goa on May 15 under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety. The event was organised by the Mines Safety & Productivity Council (Goa, Sindhudurg & Kolhapur) and hosted by Fomento Resources Private Limited.
The event highlighted the mining industry’s continued commitment towards promoting safe working practices, accident prevention and a zero-harm work environment across mining operations.
The function was attended by several senior officials and dignitaries from the mining and safety sectors. Chief Guest Shri Ramawatar Meena, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, Western Zone, Nagpur, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of strengthening safety awareness and occupational hazard prevention within the mining industry.
Other dignitaries present included Shri Ramesh Walikar, Convener of the Mines Safety & Productivity Council and Director of Mines Safety, Goa Region; Shri Aftab Ahmad, Director of Mines Safety – Mining, West Zone, Nagpur; Shri P K Jain, Director of Mines Safety – Mechanical, West Zone, Nagpur; Shri T. Srinivas, Director of Mines Safety – Electrical, West Zone, Nagpur; Shri Rajiv Kumar, President of the Mines Safety & Productivity Council and Head – Mineral Resources Goa & Uttar Pradesh at Fomento Resources Private Limited; Shri Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Vice President of the Mines Safety & Productivity Council and Deputy CEO of Vedanta Limited; and Shri Sandeep Morajkar, Secretary of the Mines Safety & Productivity Council and General Manager at Fomento Resources.
The objective of Mines Safety Week is to spread awareness regarding mine safety standards, minimise workplace accidents and encourage best practices within the mining industry. The celebration witnessed participation from mine managements, workers, safety professionals, government officials and industry stakeholders from across Goa, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Raigad and Ratnagiri.
A total of 50 mines participated in the Safety Week celebrations held between December 15 and December 20, 2025.
As part of the initiative, several activities including seminars, trade tests across multiple disciplines and first-aider competitions were conducted to encourage skill development and promote safety consciousness among workers and mine operators.
The dignitaries were welcomed by Shri Rajiv Kumar and Shri Dhirajkumar Jagdish, while the Mines Safety Week report was presented by Shri Sandeep Morajkar.
A commemorative souvenir marking the occasion was also released during the event by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries present on the dais.
The ceremony additionally featured a prize distribution recognising outstanding performances and safety practices demonstrated by participating mines and teams.
During the programme, Vedanta Limited officially took over as the host for the next Mines Safety Week celebrations.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Sandeep Morajkar, Secretary of the Mines Safety & Productivity Council.
