Sonali Bendre Says Early Cancer Detection Could Have Changed Her Stage 4 Battle

Sonali Bendre has opened up about one of the most difficult chapters of her life, reflecting on her battle with stage 4 metastatic cancer and stressing the importance of early detection.

The actor, who was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2018, recently spoke about her journey during an interaction with Forbes India. She shared how earlier diagnosis could have potentially changed the course of her treatment and prevented the severe hardships she endured.

Speaking candidly about her experience, Sonali said, โ€œI neednโ€™t have reached the fourth stage. Had I tested and detected it early, I neednโ€™t have gone through the hardship that I went through.โ€

The actor underwent chemotherapy and surgery in New York while battling the illness. Throughout the process, she credited her family and close friends for being her strongest support system during one of the most challenging periods of her life.

Sonali also reflected on how cancer was often treated as a taboo topic, with many people hesitating to even say the word.

โ€œIt was a taboo subject, and I did not realise it. They were mentioning this as the C disease. They wouldnโ€™t even name it,โ€ she revealed.

After publicly sharing her diagnosis, Sonali realised that her platform as a public figure helped create awareness and encouraged conversations around preventive healthcare and early testing.

She expressed pride in helping normalize discussions around cancer over the past seven years and said she feels fulfilled knowing her journey encouraged others to get tested sooner.

Sonali Bendre emphasised that cancer should not be seen as hopeless, especially when diagnosed early, and encouraged people to prioritise health check-ups.

On the work front, Sonali was last seen in The Broken News and currently hosts The Happy Pawdcast, a show focused on pet parenting and animal welfare.
