Panaji: Geno Sports Club and Salgaocar Cricket Club emerged victorious in Wednesday’s matches of the Goa Cricket Association Premier Division One-Day League, delivering strong performances in both batting and bowling departments.
At the GCA Academy Ground in Porvorim, Chowgule Sports Club struggled to build partnerships despite a promising 51-run opening stand and were eventually bowled out for 152 in just 28.4 overs. Captain Darshan Misal played a fighting knock of 62 runs, while Gauresh Kambli added 39 and Shubham Desai chipped in with 25 runs.
Geno’s bowlers maintained disciplined lines throughout the innings. Leg-spinner Manish Kakode and Nihal Surlakar claimed three wickets each, while Shiven Borkar picked up two crucial wickets to restrict Chowgule to a modest total.
In reply, Geno Sports Club comfortably chased down the target, reaching 154/3 in 25.2 overs. Veer Yadav gave the team a solid foundation with a well-made 52, while skipper Manthan Khutkar remained unbeaten on 61 to guide the chase. Nihal Surlakar added a quick unbeaten 14 to finish the match in style.
For his all-round contribution, Nihal Surlakar was named Player of the Match.
In the second match played at Sanguem, Salgaocar Cricket Club posted a competitive total of 234/8 in 40 overs after electing to bat first.
Captain Yash Kasvankar led from the front with a brilliant 92 off 88 deliveries, smashing eight boundaries and a six. Yogesh Kauthankar contributed 33 runs, while Piyush Yadav added 30 valuable runs.
Margao Cricket Club responded positively but were bowled out for 210 in 38.3 overs, falling short by 24 runs. Chigurupati Venkata scored 55 while Deepraj Gaonkar added 53 to keep Margao in the hunt, but regular wickets halted their momentum.
Kasvankar capped off a stellar performance by taking three wickets, while Fardin Khan also claimed three wickets to help Salgaocar seal victory.
Yash Kasvankar was awarded Player of the Match for his exceptional all-round display.
