United Club of Utorda & GFDC Summer Football Camp Highlights Grassroots Growth in Goa

The United Club of Utorda, in collaboration with the Goa Football Development Council (GFDC), organised a vibrant Summer Football Camp aimed at nurturing young sporting talent and strengthening grassroots football in the region. The initiative witnessed an encouraging response with 148 trainees participating, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for football among the youth of Utorda.

The certificate distribution ceremony was attended by GFDC Member Secretary Fransquinha Oliveira, United Club of Utorda President Trinidade Fernandes, Utorda Sarpanch Celina Gomes, and Parish Priest Fr Arvino Fernandes of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utorda.

Speaking at the event, Fransquinha Oliveira congratulated the organisers for the strong turnout and emphasised the potential revival of the erstwhile GFDC centre in Utorda. She highlighted that the village has historically been an important football hub and expressed confidence that, with continued community support, it can once again emerge as a strong grassroots centre. She also noted the success of GFDC centres across Goa, including Cuncolim, Navelim, and Ambelim, with 36 centres currently active statewide.

Oliveira further acknowledged the dedication of coaches Marcus and Jennifer, crediting their efforts in shaping not only the football skills but also the discipline and character of young players. She thanked the United Club of Utorda for partnering in the initiative and encouraged continued collaboration to strengthen football development in the region.

Fr Arvino Fernandes, addressing the young participants, emphasised the importance of discipline and values in shaping a successful life. He reminded students that respect, conduct, and character are as important as sporting talent, encouraging them to carry these values both on and off the field.

The camp stands as a strong example of community-driven sports development, aiming to build a structured pathway for young athletes and revive Utorda’s legacy as a thriving football centre in Goa.
