Actor Genelia Deshmukh turned emotional during the trailer launch of Raja Shivaji in Mumbai, as her husband, actor and filmmaker Riteish Deshmukh, reflected on the challenges faced while bringing the story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to life on the big screen.
The event, held on April 20, became a heartfelt moment as Riteish addressed the media and expressed gratitude to his team for standing by him through the film’s demanding journey. As he spoke about the struggles, dedication, and perseverance involved in creating the historical drama, Genelia, who stood beside him, was visibly overwhelmed and broke down in tears.
Videos and images from the launch quickly surfaced online, capturing the emotional exchange. At one point, Riteish paused his speech to acknowledge Genelia’s unwavering support, calling her his greatest strength throughout the process, adding a deeply personal touch to the event.
Raja Shivaji boasts a powerful ensemble cast featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Bhagyashree, along with notable appearances by Sachin Khedekar, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, and Amole Gupte. Genelia herself is also part of the film’s cast, further making the project a special collaboration for the couple.
Adding to the excitement, Salman Khan will be seen in a cameo role, with Riteish hinting at his significant presence in the narrative.
The film chronicles the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, focusing on his battles, leadership, and the foundation of the Maratha empire. Backed by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, and co-produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh, the film aims to present a grand cinematic retelling of the legendary ruler’s journey.
Set for release on May 1, 2026, coinciding with Maharashtra Day, Raja Shivaji will hit theatres in multiple languages, including Marathi, Hindi, and Telugu, promising a wide-reaching impact across audiences.
