Goa, March 5, 2026: Goa and its tourism leadership received global recognition at the PATWA International Travel Awards 2026 held on the sidelines of ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade exhibition. Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte was conferred the “Tourism Minister of the Year – Innovation (Asia)” award by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) in recognition of his leadership and initiatives aimed at transforming Goa’s tourism sector.

Receiving the recognition, Khaunte said the honour belonged to the people of Goa. He noted that tourism in the state goes beyond destinations and reflects its communities, culture and environment. He added that the government’s vision is to build a tourism model that is regenerative, inclusive and sustainable while ensuring that tourism benefits every Goan.

Goa was also honoured with the “Destination of the Year – Rejuvenation” award, recognising the state’s efforts to reposition itself through sustainable, regenerative and experience-driven tourism. The recognition highlights Goa’s transition from a traditional beach destination to a diverse global tourism hub rooted in culture, spirituality, nature, adventure, wellness and community participation.

Under the leadership of the tourism minister, Goa Tourism has undertaken several initiatives aligned with the vision of “Goa Beyond Beaches” and regenerative tourism, focusing on the pillars of people, economy and environment. These initiatives include the promotion of hinterland and spiritual tourism circuits, empowerment of local communities and women-led homestays, development of culture-driven festivals and experiential tourism, strengthening international connectivity and global partnerships, and promoting sustainable and responsible tourism practices.
The PATWA International Travel Awards honour governments, destinations, organisations and individuals who have made significant contributions to the global travel and tourism industry. The recognition at ITB Berlin 2026 further strengthens Goa’s position as a dynamic and forward-looking global tourism destination.
