Threads of Empowerment: JCI Sanquelim Hosts 10th Aari Workshop in Sattari

In a continued effort to promote skill development and empower local communities, JCI Sanquelim successfully concluded its 10th Aari Workshop at Bhirondem in Sattari. The initiative marked yet another milestone in nurturing creativity and self-reliance among women in the region.

The six-day workshop saw the participation of 10 women, who were trained in the intricate and delicate art of Aari designing. Known for its detailed embroidery techniques, Aari work requires precision, patience, and creativity—skills that the participants actively developed over the course of the training. More importantly, the workshop provided them with a strong foundation and the confidence to pursue Aari art professionally, should they choose to explore it as a source of livelihood.

This initiative was conducted under the KAABIL Project of JCI India, a nationwide program focused on enhancing employability and empowering individuals through practical skill-building activities. Through such programs, JCI organizations across the country continue to make a meaningful impact at the grassroots level.

The workshop was led by JC Smita Gawalkar, whose expertise and hands-on guidance played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the training. Her approach not only focused on technical skills but also encouraged participants to believe in their creative potential.

The certification ceremony was held in the presence of JC Asmita Gauns, President of JCI Sanquelim, and JC Nikita Desai, who applauded the participants for their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the workshop.

A special note of gratitude was extended to Mrs. Rajana Rane, Panch Member of Bhirondem Panchayat, for generously providing the venue and supporting the initiative. Her contribution helped create a conducive environment for learning and collaboration.

The success of this workshop highlights the importance of community-driven initiatives in creating opportunities and fostering independence. With each such effort, JCI Sanquelim continues to inspire change—one skill, one individual, and one community at a time.

The event was attended by Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Tourism and Printing & Stationery Rohan Khaunte, along with senior officials, local representatives and community leaders. Addressing the gathering, the Minister commended DITE&C’s efforts in taking digital empowerment to the grassroots level. He emphasised that initiatives such as the Mahila Digital Sashaktikaran Yojana ensure that women from both urban centres and rural villages gain the skills, confidence and access required to participate meaningfully in Goa’s digital economy. He noted that the scheme enables women to access government services online, run businesses digitally, acquire new skills and compete effectively in today’s market landscape.

Under the scheme, participants receive hands-on training in using digital devices, navigating online platforms and accessing e-governance services. The training is delivered through empanelled Information Technology Knowledge Centres (ITKCs), Common Service Centres (CSCs) and Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs), ensuring accessibility through panchayat halls and community centres.

The programme began with a detailed presentation outlining the structure, eligibility criteria and benefits of the scheme, followed by an informative cyber security awareness session conducted by officials from the Cyber Crime Police Station, Goa. The session highlighted safe digital practices and the importance of protecting oneself from online fraud and cyber threats.

The event concluded with a significant number of women registering for the scheme, reflecting strong interest and engagement from the community. Through initiatives directly benefiting citizens, particularly women in rural areas, DITE&C continues its mission of bridging the digital divide and promoting equitable access to technology across Goa.

Delhi Launches ‘Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’: Girls to Receive ₹1 Lakh Support from Birth Till Graduation

New Delhi — In a significant move focused on empowering the girl child, the Delhi government has launched the ‘Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’, a financial assistance programme designed to provide long-term support to girls from birth until they complete their graduation.\

Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive structured financial benefits that can collectively amount to ₹1 lakh, aimed at encouraging education, improving social security, and supporting families in investing in their daughters’ futures. Officials say the initiative reflects a broader commitment to gender equality and inclusive development.

The programme is expected to provide phased financial assistance linked to key milestones such as school enrolment, continued education, and higher studies. By offering sustained support rather than a one-time grant, the scheme seeks to reduce dropout rates and promote higher education among girls.

Government representatives highlighted that the initiative also aligns with national and state-level goals to improve literacy rates and create opportunities for young women. Apart from financial incentives, awareness campaigns and outreach programmes may be conducted to ensure that eligible families are informed about the benefits.

Policy analysts view the scheme as part of a growing trend among Indian states to introduce targeted welfare programmes focused on empowering the girl child through education, financial stability, and social protection.

As the rollout begins, many are watching closely to see how the ‘Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ impacts educational outcomes and long-term empowerment for girls in Delhi.
