Gangaram, fondly known as Satish Narvekar, has devoted over 35 years to the theatre industry in Goa. His contribution to the Goan theatre scene has been nothing short of exceptional. He is celebrated for his creativity, versatility, and ability to capture the essence of Goan culture through his plays.
One of his most notable achievements came when he won the first prize for best direction for the play Media in the 63rd Maharashtra State Hovanshi Marathi Drama Competition. His direction of this play, presented by Rudreshwar Panaji, stood out among 501 participating plays, a testament to his mastery in stagecraft and storytelling.
Gangaramโs journey through the world of theatre is marked by numerous accolades and awards. Among these is the Youth Creation Award for 2019-20, presented by the Goa Government, which acknowledged his significant contributions to the cultural fabric of the region. His work has earned him recognition at various prestigious drama competitions, including the Marathi Konkani Drama Competition organized by the Kala Akademi, where his plays consistently received high praise.
Not confined to local stages, Gangaram has made a name for himself on the international circuit as well. He has represented Goa and India at some of the most celebrated drama festivals worldwide. His play Media, which he directed, was showcased at the International Bharat Rang Mahotsav, one of the largest and most prestigious theatre festivals in the world.
His creative prowess also took him to the Colombo International Drama Festival in Sri Lanka, further expanding his reach and influence within the global theatre community. Through these international appearances, Gangaram has effectively showcased the depth of Goan and Indian culture, and his works have resonated with global audiences.
In addition to his international success, Gangaram’s play Media has garnered multiple accolades, both individually and collectively. At the Kala Akademi A Group State Drama Competition of Yadha, the play received 7 individual awards along with the first prize for the best play. This recognition was followed by similar success at the 63rd Maharashtra State Hovanshi Marathi Drama Competition, where the same play won 5 individual awards and the first prize in the competition.
