Telangana Govt to Provide Free Electricity for Ganesh & Durga Pandals

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced a major relief for festival organizers by offering free electricity supply for pandals during Ganesh Navaratri and Durga Navaratri celebrations in 2025.

According to the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL), the facility will cover 11 days of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations from August 27 to September 6, 2025, and 14 days of Durga Puja celebrations from September 29 to October 12, 2025.

The government clarified that this initiative will be extended only to authorized pandals. Organizers must complete the mandatory registration process and comply with all safety norms prescribed by TGSPDCL to avail the benefit.

Officials emphasized that the move aims to encourage safe and regulated celebrations while reducing the financial burden on community groups. By ensuring adherence to safety protocols, the government also seeks to minimize electrical hazards during large gatherings.

Festival organizers across Telangana have welcomed the decision, calling it a thoughtful measure that supports cultural traditions while ensuring public safety.

With this announcement, the state reaffirms its commitment to facilitating festive spirit while prioritizing safety, regulation, and inclusivity.

Telangana Notifies New Work Hour Policy: Employees Can Now Work 10 Hours Daily at Commercial Establishments

Hyderabad, July 2025 โ€“ In a significant move aimed at improving operational flexibility for businesses, the Telangana government has permitted commercial establishments to extend daily work hours from 8 to 10 hours. The decision was notified officially, altering the stateโ€™s standard labour law framework.

This change means businesses such as retail shops, showrooms, service centres, and other commercial enterprises can legally engage employees for up to 10 hours a day, marking a 25% increase in daily work time.

The notification is part of broader reforms under labour law modernization efforts, aiming to align local practices with emerging economic demands. While some industry leaders have welcomed the decision as a boost to productivity and efficiency, labour groups and employee advocates have raised concerns over potential overwork, burnout, and the impact on employee well-being.

๐Ÿ“Œ Key Points:

  • Applies to: Commercial establishments across Telangana
  • Old Limit: 8 hours per day
  • New Limit: 10 hours per day
  • Impact: Greater operational flexibility for employers; potential rise in employee fatigue if not managed

The government is expected to issue detailed guidelines regarding overtime pay, weekly working limits, and compliance protocols to ensure worker welfare is not compromised. Stakeholder feedback and public responses are anticipated in the coming days as industries begin implementing the extended work schedules.

This decision places Telangana among a growing list of Indian states revisiting traditional labour norms in light of post-pandemic productivity models and changing economic needs.
