JCI Vasco Distributes Books to Students in Memory of Adv. TT Shreedharan

JCI Vasco marked the birth anniversary of its Past President, Adv. TT Shreedharan, with a meaningful book distribution drive at Manohar Parrikar Municipal High School in Vasco. The initiative was organised as a tribute to his legacy and his commitment to community service and youth development.

As part of the programme, 50 students from Classes 9 and 10 received copies of the widely acclaimed self-development book How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. The selection of the book reflected the organisation’s aim to encourage personal growth, confidence, and effective communication among young learners.

The event was attended by Mrs. Loretta Shreedharan, who addressed the students and spoke about the importance of cultivating a strong reading habit. She encouraged them to use books as tools for self-improvement and to continuously strive to become better versions of themselves.

Her interaction with the students highlighted the role of reading in shaping character, improving communication skills, and building confidence—qualities that are essential for success in both academic and personal life.

The initiative served as a fitting tribute to Adv. TT Shreedharan’s legacy, reflecting his dedication to education, social responsibility, and the empowerment of youth. St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona marked Children’s Day with an inspiring gesture that celebrated both discipline and sustainability. The school felicitated eighteen students, including two girls and sixteen boys, for their unwavering commitment to cycling to school every single day. This daily practice has not only strengthened their personal fitness but has also contributed to the school’s broader mission of promoting environmentally responsible habits among the student community. The event was graced by the Manager, Fr. Jerard Sahayaraj, Principal, Ms. Angelica Fernandes, and Senior Teacher, Mr. Amarnath Panjikar, who presented tokens of appreciation to the young cyclists. Their recognition highlighted the students’ dedication at a time when many teenagers opt for motorbikes even before meeting the legal age for licenses. This simple act of choosing a bicycle over a motorcycle stands as a powerful example of responsibility, safety, and conscious living.

Senior Teacher Amarnath Panjikar, who coordinated the initiative, emphasised the importance of this effort. He noted that the students have set an example worth following, reminding their peers of the many benefits that cycling offers — from improved physical fitness to reducing pollution and contributing to a cleaner, greener environment. The school hopes that this initiative will inspire more students to adopt bicycles as a sustainable mode of daily transport. On September 17th, the students of Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School came together to champion a powerful cause—saving nature through sustainable practices. The school organized a Cycle Rally that witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of Std. III to Std. X. The event was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of protecting our environment and promoting cycling as a clean, eco-friendly mode of transportation.

The young participants pedaled through the streets with energy and excitement, holding placards and banners that conveyed powerful environmental messages. Their presence served as a reminder to the community of the small but impactful choices we can make every day for a healthier planet.

Teachers from the school also played an integral role in the rally. They accompanied the students not only to ensure safety but also to encourage and inspire them. Their support added a sense of motivation and unity to the event, turning it into a collaborative success between students and educators.

Agriculture Students Champion Vermicomposting for Greener Goa in Chorão

Agriculture students from Goa took a significant step toward promoting sustainable farming practices by organizing a live vermicomposting demonstration for local farmers in Chorão village. The initiative was part of their RAWE (Rural Agricultural Work Experience) programme, a key component of agricultural education that connects classroom learning with practical fieldwork.

The demonstration showcased the process of vermicomposting — the use of earthworms to convert organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. Farmers were introduced to simple, cost-effective methods of setting up and maintaining composting systems on their farms, highlighting the benefits of improved soil health, reduced dependence on chemical fertilizers, and enhanced crop yields.

The event emphasized the importance of waste-to-resource conversion, not just as an environmental necessity but also as an economically viable solution for rural farming communities. Students took the lead in educating farmers on how agricultural and kitchen waste could be transformed into valuable compost, fostering a circular economy at the grassroots level.

In a world increasingly burdened by environmental challenges, Smt. Sunandabai Bandodkar High School took a refreshing step towards sustainability — all through a festival deeply rooted in Indian tradition. This year’s Raksha Bandhan was not just about the bond between siblings but also about a heartfelt connection between humans and nature.

In a unique initiative titled “Ek Rakhi Ped Ke Naam”, students crafted biodegradable rakhis using natural materials such as leaves, flowers, banana stems, creepers, and coconut threads. These were not just decorative bands — they symbolized a pledge of protection, not for a sibling, but for the trees and plants around them.

Under the shade of trees and amidst the sounds of rustling leaves, students tied these rakhis to plants in the school garden. Along with this symbolic act, they took an oath to nurture and protect the environment, turning the celebration into a powerful eco-message.

This initiative did more than mark a festival. It encouraged children to reflect on their role as caretakers of the planet, showcasing how traditional values can harmoniously align with environmental responsibility.
