What Does Cinema Mean to You? IFFI 2025 Call for Entries

Written by Tanisha Cardozo

Every frame holds a feeling, and every story preserves a moment in time. Cinema is not just entertainment—it is emotion, imagination, and memory woven together through light, sound, and storytelling. This year, the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) invites you to reflect on your connection with the art of cinema.

What does cinema mean to you? Is it the thrill of the first frame, the silence after the credits roll, or the way stories stay with us long after we’ve left the theatre? Whether you are a filmmaker, cinephile, or simply someone who loves the power of a good story, this is your chance to share your voice.

Send in your short video by 31st October 2025 and be part of IFFI 56, where storytellers, dreamers, and creators from around the world gather to celebrate the essence of film. Your submission could be featured on one of the most prestigious stages in global cinema.

Join the movement. Capture your emotion. Tell your story. Because in the end, cinema belongs to everyone who dares to feel.

Voices in Harmony: An Unforgettable Open Mic Evening at Carpe Diem – Majorda

Carpe Diem – Majorda recently became the stage for an evening of heartfelt expression and shared experiences, as an Open Mic Evening unfolded in collaboration with Zeitgeist Goa and TEDx Panaji. Curated and hosted by Diya Padiyar and Loretta Rodrigues, the event revolved around the poignant theme “It’s About Time.”

From the very first act, the atmosphere was electric—filled with anticipation, warmth, and curiosity. The lineup reflected a beautiful mix of voices, perspectives, and forms of expression. Poetry, music, storytelling, and stand-up comedy wove a rich tapestry of emotion and creativity. Some performers were seasoned veterans, while others stood before an audience for the very first time. Each was met with equal respect and encouragement, creating a space where everyone felt heard and valued.

One particularly special moment was a debut stand-up performance that had the room erupting in laughter and applause. The crowd’s response reminded everyone of the unique magic that live, in-person storytelling can offer.

What made the evening even more special was the multilingual nature of the performances. Artists switched between languages with ease—blending cultures, experiences, and identities into their pieces. It wasn’t just the performers who took the spotlight. The audience, too, played an active role—offering questions, sharing their own reflections, and responding with visible emotion and support.

As the night drew to a close, a live band took over the stage, delivering soulful, heartfelt music that wrapped the evening in warmth. People left the venue smiling, inspired, and connected—not just to the performances, but to each other.

The Open Mic at Carpe Diem was more than just an event. It was a celebration of voice, presence, and the power of sharing your truth. Through collaboration and community, it became a moment in time where stories mattered, and every voice found its place.

For Harsh, the spark that ignited his passion for photography was his father’s camera phone. “Those were the days when camera phones had just arrived in the Indian market, and my father had one,” he recalls. “I’d be super excited every time I would take it in my hand and take some pictures on the same.” This early fascination with photography laid the foundation for Harsh’s future endeavors.

As Harsh grew older, his interest in photography only deepened. This passion for storytelling has led Harsh to work on various projects, from documenting real-life stories to capturing the beauty of everyday moments.

Throughout his journey, Harsh has had the opportunity to work with several notable photographers and artists. One of his most significant collaborations has been with Common Thread Media, a media firm that works in the social development sector. “Working with Common Thread Media has been a highlight of my career,” Harsh says. “It’s allowed me to work on projects that promote social development and tell real-life stories.”

So, what inspires Harsh’s creativity? “I find inspiration in everyday moments,” he says. “Observing the world around me keeps my creative vision fresh.” This ability to find inspiration in the mundane has enabled Harsh to develop a unique perspective that sets his photography apart.

For those aspiring to follow in Harsh’s footsteps, his advice is simple yet profound: “Just go out there and click.” He believes that the key to success lies in perseverance, dedication, and a willingness to learn. “To be able to take up your passion as a profession, to be able to tell stories through your pictures, is an ultimate joy and privilege,” Harsh says.
