St. Xavier’s College Marks 60th Annual Sports Meet with Vibrant Celebrations


St. Xavier’s College hosted its 60th Annual Sports Meet on December 13, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s sporting legacy. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and well-wishers, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere on campus.

The programme began with a welcome address by the Administrator, Rev. Fr. Antonio Salema, followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the flag by the Chief Guest, Mr. Edwin Colaco, Superintendent of Police. In her address, the Officiating Principal, Mrs. Ursula Barreto, reaffirmed the college’s commitment to promoting sports and physical fitness, stressing the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle alongside academic pursuits.

This was followed by an impressive march-past by students from various academic streams. The torch relay, symbolising sporting spirit and excellence, was led by Prachit Gaonkar, Chanel Crizzle, Yousuf Mainuddin Shaikh and Swezial D’Souza. The sports achievements of the college were presented by Ms. Joslyn D’Souza, Director of Physical Education and Sports.

Track and field events such as the 100 metres, 200 metres and relay races for both boys and girls showcased the participants’ speed, stamina and agility. The college grounds echoed with cheers from students and spectators, adding to the excitement of the day. One of the most thrilling events was the tug of war, which featured a spirited contest between the SYBCom, BBA and BBA (TT) teams.

The jumble march-past drew special appreciation as students creatively portrayed the theme “Healthy Minds and Active Bodies.” Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr. Edwin Colaco congratulated the participants and encouraged students to lead disciplined and healthy lives.

The Sports Meet concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, during which TY BCom emerged as the overall champions for the academic year 2025–2026. Mr. Arthur D’Souza was honoured as the Sportsman of the Year for his outstanding all-round performance. The event ended with the lowering of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem, bringing the celebrations to a dignified close.

Goa Football Team Seeks Divine Blessings Ahead of Santosh Trophy in Karnataka


As the Goa Football Team gears up to compete in the prestigious Santosh Trophy in Karnataka, the players and coaching staff took time to seek divine blessings at St. Francis Xavier Church, Duler.

Rev. Fr. Anthony Fernandes, Parish Priest, warmly received the team and offered prayers invoking God’s guidance, strength, and protection for their journey ahead. He encouraged the players to uphold the principles of dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship, both on and off the field, emphasizing that true success combines skill with character.

The blessing ceremony was attended by Mr. Caintano Fernandes, President of the Goa Football Association, alongside the coaching staff and the players. The spiritual support provided a moment of reflection and unity, fostering motivation and confidence as the team prepares to face strong competition at the national level.

Supporters and the Goa Football Association extended their best wishes, expressing faith in the team’s abilities to compete with courage, determination, and pride. The team now carries not just their training and strategy, but also the blessings of their community, as they step onto the national stage aiming for excellence.

MLA Capt. Venzy Hosts HMS Royal Navy Rugby Team for Exhibition Match in Utorda


In a dynamic celebration of sports and international camaraderie, MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas hosted the HMS Royal Navy Rugby Team for an exciting exhibition match with the CROCS Rugby Team, Colva, at the Utorda SAG Ground.

The event brought together players, sports enthusiasts, and dignitaries, marking a memorable day for Goa’s sporting community. The spirited encounter showcased the talent and teamwork of both sides, uniting players from different backgrounds through the universal language of sport.

MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas expressed his delight at the collaboration, emphasizing that such events build not only athletic skill but also mutual respect and cultural exchange. “Sport is a bridge that connects nations and communities. It’s wonderful to see global teams sharing the same field with local Goan talent,” he remarked.

Also present at the event was Ex-Betalbatim Panch Santu, who lauded the effort and extended his support to initiatives promoting international sports exposure in Goa.

The exhibition match concluded with warm interactions between the players, symbolizing unity, teamwork, and the spirit of fair play. The event added another milestone to Goa’s growing sports landscape, showcasing that when it comes to passion and respect, the game truly transcends boundaries.

GMC Football League Tournament 2025: A Celebration of Sportsmanship and Team Spirit


The Goa Medical College & Hospitals recently hosted its 5th season of the inter-departmental Football League Tournament 2025 and Tiebreaker for Women on May 11th at the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, Goa. This annual event, founded in 2019 by Dean Prof. Dr. Shivanand Bandekar, aims to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie among the staff and students of GMC.


The men’s championship saw an intense competition among various teams, with the Dean’s Office Team, “League Legends,” emerging as the winners. The “Boom Boom Neuro” team put up a strong fight, ultimately becoming the runners-up. In the women’s tiebreaker event, “Cardio Strikers” showcased their skills and determination, taking home the winning title.


The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Shri Bruno Coutinho, an Arjuna awardee and Director of Coaching SAG Goa; Ms. Eki Shukla, Accountant General Goa; Shri Akhil Kumar, Dy. Accountant General Goa; Shri Amit Kumar Mishra IAS, Secretary Health; Mrs. Sadhana Bandekar, Ex-Chief Engineer PWD Goa; and Pranav Bhat, Jt. Secretary Finance and Health. A friendly match between GMC and the Secretariat was also played, with the Secretariat emerging as winners.


The GMC Football League Tournament 2025 was a resounding success, promoting a healthy atmosphere of sporting and teamwork among the participants. The event not only showcased the sporting prowess of the GMC staff and students but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
