Laziz CQS Ends Campaign on a High Note


Margao: Laziz CQS wrapped up their Alcon GSB Unity Cup T-20 campaign with a commanding 68-run victory over Rising Stars of Antruz in their final league match, played under floodlights at MCC Ground, Margao, on Thursday evening.

Batting first, Laziz CQS posted an imposing total of 209 runs in 19.5 overs, led by contributions from Vidheya Kossambe (36), Varun Kudchadkar (35), Nikhil Virginkar (35), and Deval Karmali (33). In response, Rising Stars of Antruz struggled to keep up with the required run rate and managed 141/9 in 20 overs, with Paarth Kossambe (36) and Vaibhav Nagarsenkar (22) being the top scorers.

Sarvesh Sinari, who delivered a match-winning spell of 3/19, was named ‘Man of the Match’. Despite the win, Laziz CQS had already exited the tournament, while Antruz ended their campaign without securing a single victory.

Rishabh Secures Spot in Quarterfinals of the Baale BPS Open 2025 in the Open Men’s Category


Panaji, February 18 – The cherry on top of an already special day for Rishabh Beria, the Salvador-based tennis player advanced to the quarterfinals of the open men’s category in the ongoing second edition of the Baale BPS Open tennis tournament on his 41st birthday, defeating his opponent Prithvi Naik 6-4. Rishabh was joined in the quarterfinal stage by Prince Agnelo de Silva, who easily outdid Pankaj Naik (6-1) in the same open category.  

The Baale BPS Open 2025, which is being held at the B.P.S. Club courts in Margao, also witnessed a slew of matches in the Masters category, which saw Neville Menezes edge out Kishor Metry (6-4), Manoj knocking out the challenge from Marcus DCosta (6-0) and Caetano Fernandes sweat it out in his duel against Noel Noronha (7-5) in the 45+ men’s singles quarterfinals to make it to the semifinal round. In another match in the same category, Sameer Kakodkar blanked Mervin Soares (6-0). 

In the 55+ men’s singles quarterfinal event, Noel Noronha defeated Sameer Kakodkar (6-3), while Caetano Fernandes ousted Savio Vales (6-1). The masters 45+ men’s doubles category saw Kedar Tari/Allan Fernandes defeat Sagar Utagi/Ashokkumar Borkar (6-1) to reach the semifinal, while Sunil Signapurkar paired up with Shubert Calaco to vanquish Anup Sardesai/Dean (6-2). In another match in the 55+ men’s doubles category, Raju/Aman Prabhu defeated Savio Vales/Hemant Bhide 6-2 to progress to the semifinal. 

The tournament, which has received a lot of participation from youngsters, saw Shaurya Verlekar outwit Gaurang Nerurkar 7-6 (2) in a tough encounter, while Alec Cris Barreto, Kyan K Mavany and Vidaal De Menezes made light work of their opponents Arsh Sardesai, Kaivalya Devaraya and Tanish Bandodkar, respectively, defeating them 6-1 in the boys under-18 category. Playing in the same category, Ethan De Ataide and Shreyas Patil trounced Vihaan Krishnan and Devansh Naik (6-0), respectively. 

In keenly contested matches in the boys under-14 category, Aarin Ballani overcame a stiff challenge from Tanish Bandodkar (7-5), while Aarav Kumar defeated Satya Stewart (6-4). Arhan Gaunkar and Shaurya Verlekar made light work of their opponents Aarav Kumar and Christian Fernandes, respectively, defeating them 6-1, while Timofei Polosin defeated Sairaj Narvenkar (6-0). 

In the three matches played in the men’s doubles event, Dustan Dias/Deepak defeated Sachin Arun Ambre/Pankaj Naik (7-5), Wes Ryan/Sanket Nayak knocked out Gary Steele/Satya (6-0) and Nihaal Borkar/Kane Pereira beat Rishabh Beria/Tarang Doshi (6-2).

RCB Appoints Rajat Patidar as Captain for IPL 2025


In a significant development, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has announced Rajat Patidar as their new captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Patidar, a talented right-handed batter, will lead the team in their quest for their maiden IPL title.


Patidar’s appointment as captain is a testament to his impressive performance for RCB over the past three seasons. Goa University Women’s Football Team Secures Spot in Khelo India University Games 2025


In a remarkable display of skill and determination, the Goa University Women’s Football Team has qualified for the prestigious Khelo India University Games 2025. The team’s impressive performance at the All India Inter-University Football Women’s Championship 2024-25, held at GNA University, Phagwara, Punjab, from January 11-16, 2025, secured their spot among the top eight teams.

The team’s campaign began with a closely contested match against Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, Haryana, where they narrowly lost 1-2. Pushpa Parab scored the lone goal for Goa University in this game. However, the team bounced back strongly, defeating Vels University, Chennai 1-0 in the second league match, with a brilliant goal by Karen Estrocio.

Goa University continued their winning momentum, securing an emphatic 5-1 victory against the University of Burdwan, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal in the third league match, and qualified for the knockout stage. Goals were scored by Karen Estrocio (1), Pushpa Parab (2), Sushmita Jadhav (1), and Flani Costa (1).

In the quarterfinals, Goa University put up a valiant effort but narrowly lost 2-1 to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Despite the defeat, the team’s overall performance ensured a top-eight finish in the championship.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for the team, as they now look forward to representing Goa University at the Khelo India University Games 2025. The team’s success is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and teamwork.
