Cyber Smart Generation: Awareness Drive Held at St. Francis Xavier’s High School, Siolim

A significant step towards building digital awareness among young students was witnessed in Siolim, Goa, as a cyber awareness and online safety programme was conducted at St. Francis Xavier’s High School on 25th February 2026. The initiative was organised by the Siolim Free Legal Aid Cell of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, aiming to equip students with essential knowledge to navigate the increasingly complex digital world safely.

The session was led by PSI Sahil Vijay Warang, Police Sub-Inspector from Anjuna Police Station, who addressed the students as the guest speaker. His talk focused on the growing threats of cybercrime and the importance of awareness as the first line of defence. The programme was held in the presence of Fr. Dilip Tete, Headmaster of the school, and Fr. Marcos Dsouza, Principal of the Higher Secondary section, both of whom appreciated the initiative and its relevance in today’s digital age.

With participation from approximately 600 to 650 students, along with teachers and members of the Legal Aid Cell, the session turned into an engaging and insightful learning experience. Students were introduced to the concept of cybercrime as an “unseen danger,” where criminals often exploit human emotions such as fear, greed, and curiosity rather than relying solely on advanced technology.

PSI Warang shared real-life examples of various online frauds, including fake investment schemes, job scams, sextortion cases, fake loan applications, impersonation frauds, matrimonial scams, and online booking frauds. He also explained newer threats such as digital arrest scams and emotional manipulation tactics, helping students understand how easily individuals can fall prey without proper awareness.

A key focus of the session was on developing a responsible digital mindset. Students were encouraged to stay cautious while using social media platforms, online games, and digital payment systems. Practical tips were shared on identifying suspicious links, protecting personal information, and verifying online transactions before taking action.

The session also introduced students to important safety resources such as the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930 and official cybercrime reporting platforms, empowering them with tools to seek help in case of any online threat. The interactive nature of the programme allowed students to actively participate, ask questions, and relate to real-world scenarios discussed during the session.

Faculty members, including Assistant Professor Shreya Shah, who serves as the Faculty Incharge of the Legal Aid Cell, along with student coordinators and school staff, played a key role in organising the event. Their efforts ensured that the programme was both informative and impactful.

The event concluded with a strong message: awareness is the most powerful defence against cybercrime. As students left the session more informed and alert, the programme successfully reinforced the importance of staying vigilant in an increasingly digital world.

Virat Kohli’s One8 Commune Opens in Goa: A Riverside Haven of Mediterranean Calm

Written by Tanisha Cardozo || Team Allycaral

A new dining destination has arrived on Goa’s riverfront, bringing together scenic calm, contemporary design, and familiar comfort food. One8 Commune, the restobar brand co-owned by cricketer Virat Kohli, has opened its 16th outlet along the Chapora River in Siolim. The launch marks the brand’s latest step in its nationwide expansion, with doors opening to guests on November 5, 2025.

Unlike the bustling beachfronts or nightlife-heavy zones that define much of Goa’s dining map, One8 Commune Goa embraces a slower rhythm. Accessed through winding palm-lined village roads, the restaurant looks out onto quiet waters and green banks, creating an atmosphere suited to long lunches, sundowners, and leisurely dinners.

Designed by Aayushi Malik, the space draws inspiration from Mediterranean settings with pale surfaces, sun-washed textures, and floral tasselled umbrellas that frame panoramic river views. The design avoids heavy rustic detailing, opting instead for a breezy palette of wood, linen, and glass. Outdoor loungers, shaded walkways, and group-style tables invite guests to linger, while the interiors resemble a contemporary coastal home with open glass doors, a warm-toned bar counter, and palms that blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors. The flow of the space—from enclosed interiors to semi-covered alfresco zones—allows for smooth transitions between daytime relaxation and softly lit evening gatherings. With 180 covers, the venue caters to families, couples, and groups alike.

The menu reflects One8 Commune’s philosophy of approachable, shareable global comfort food. Familiar favourites such as burrata with Calabrian chilli, truffle mushroom phyllo bites, pizzas, sliders, khao suey, and rice bowls sit alongside an expanded Indian section designed for fuller meals. For its Goa debut, the culinary team has introduced local specialties including squid recheado fry, butter-garlic seafood with prawns and clams, achari pomfret from the tandoor, and crab pepper roast. Signature dishes from other cities—like truffle fries, wild mushroom risotto, and the much-loved fried chicken slider—also feature on the menu, ensuring a blend of familiarity and freshness.

At the bar, the program developed with Countertop and the in-house team focuses on “Classic Comebacks,” revisiting timeless cocktails through improved balance and texture rather than spectacle. Highlights include a refreshed Bees Knees, an apricot-forward Whiskey Sour, an Almond Negroni, and a clarified whisky cocktail paired with chocolate ice cream that nods to the Old Fashioned. This approach mirrors the broader trend toward cleaner, more refined drinks, prioritising subtlety over theatrics.

Backed by True Palate Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., One8 Commune has expanded steadily since its 2017 launch, with outlets in major Indian cities. Yet this new Goa outpost stands apart for its distinctive riverside setting, laid-back rhythm, and design-driven ambience. With its combination of scenic calm, contemporary comfort, and thoughtful hospitality, One8 Commune Goa positions itself as a destination where food, leisure, and atmosphere blend effortlessly—inviting guests to slow down, savour, and stay awhile.
