Teen Musician Shanaya Rebelo Drops Halloween-Themed Single ‘Zombies in the Street’

Inspiration can appear in the most unexpected moments — even while watching spooky videos on a quiet evening. For 15-year-old singer-songwriter Shanaya Rebelo, it sparked the creation of her latest pop-rock single, ‘Zombies in the Street’, a Halloween-themed track filled with fun, energy, and youthful creativity.

“I wanted to make something fun — a song that’s a little eerie but still energetic and light-hearted,” says Shanaya, who has previously released tracks with strong messages of hope and environmental awareness. The idea took shape during a casual jam session with her friends, who later became her bandmates. “It actually started on my birthday,” recalls the Class 10 student at The Phoenix homeschool in Panaji. “We were just jamming for fun, and the harmonies sounded so good that we decided to record it.”

The teen band, aged between 11 and 16, includes Alethea, Kristyn, and Mia on backing vocals, Zach on drums, and Tracii (from Sharada Mandir School) on bass — with Shanaya on lead vocals and guitar. The group rehearsed and recorded the track entirely live at Groovebox Studios, spending hours fine-tuning their sound. “It was a new experience for most of them, but they were amazing,” says Shanaya. “Working with friends made it even more special because everyone brought in their own ideas.”

Kristyn recalls, “At Shanaya’s birthday, she played us a few of her songs. We really liked ‘Zombies in the Street’, tried some harmonies, and it just clicked.” Zach adds, “The band was formed just for this song, and it was so much fun.”

The music video, filmed near Shanaya’s school, captures a playful Halloween atmosphere with friends acting as zombies. “My friends played the zombies, and we had one main character trying to escape them,” she explains. “It was a total group effort — from costumes to filming. Sumaiya and Jaherul handled the camera work brilliantly, and Mysticka did a great job editing it.”

“For me, the best part was singing together at the studio,” shares Mia, while Kristyn laughs, “Wearing that zombie mask during the shoot was the coolest thing!”

A singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Shanaya Rebelo began her musical journey at age eight with ‘Merry Merry Christmas’ on All India Radio, Panaji. Since then, she has released several singles through Jazz Goa and Boskon Studios, including ‘Levitating Space’, ‘Save the Earth’, and ‘I Won’t Give Up’. Known for her mix of pop, funk, and jazz influences, Shanaya writes, composes, and produces her own music, preferring live recordings for their authentic sound.

Her latest release, ‘Zombies in the Street’, is now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Bloom Music, and other major platforms, with the official video premiering on her YouTube channel.

“Sharing my music with the world gives me the utmost happiness,” says Shanaya — a sentiment that perfectly sums up her creative spirit and the joy her music brings to those who listen.

‘Second Chance’: Subhadra Mahajan’s Poetic Portrayal of Healing, Womanhood, and the Himalayas

Second Chance is an evocative and quietly powerful cinematic work by Subhadra Mahajan that blends themes of feminine healing, personal resilience, and environmental awareness in a narrative grounded in the raw beauty of the Himalayas. The film, shot entirely in black and white, takes viewers into the soul of a young woman navigating her inner trauma while immersed in the majestic yet fragile ecosystem of Himachal Pradesh.

The story revolves around Nia, played by Dheera Johnson, who retreats to her family’s summer home after facing her first significant emotional trauma. As she isolates herself in the quietude of the mountains, time, nature, and unexpected local friendships guide her toward inner healing. The slow, deliberate pace of the film reflects Nia’s own relationship with time and grief, allowing the audience to truly live the experience alongside her. The film does not rush—because healing does not.

What sets Second Chance apart is not only its emotionally intelligent storytelling but also its stylistic choices. Cinematographer Swapnil Sonawane’s decision to present the film in monochrome elevates the visual impact. Even without color, the landscapes of Himachal Pradesh breathe with life, mood, and metaphor. From forests to highlands, the visuals offer a grounding presence, anchoring the protagonist’s emotional evolution.

Subhadra’s decision to cast non-actors adds an organic authenticity to the film. The locals, with their natural speech and subtle gestures, become part of the narrative’s emotional fabric. Their presence doesn’t feel staged—it feels lived. These characters, many playing versions of themselves, create a community that gently supports Nia’s journey, reminding the viewer that healing often arrives in the form of small, unspoken acts.

The music, composed by Quan Bay, plays a crucial role in deepening the film’s emotional undertone. It drifts in and out like memory, never overwhelming the silence that carries so much weight in the story. Dance sequences are used with care and symbolism, not merely as performance but as extensions of the protagonist’s emotional state—moments when words no longer suffice.

The film, presented by the Entertainment Society of Goa’s Cinephile Film Club and hosted by Sachin Chatte, received a warm and thoughtful response from the audience. During the post-screening interaction, viewers expressed admiration for the film’s sensitivity and its honest portrayal of mental health, womanhood, and climate change without sensationalism. Many hoped the Himachal Pradesh government would support the film, given how genuinely it showcases the region’s culture and ecological reality.

Second Chance premiered at the prestigious Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and has since traveled globally to festivals including Busan, Hamburg, Sao Paulo, Adelaide, and Belfast. Its universal themes of personal growth and the delicate relationship between humans and nature have resonated with audiences worldwide.

This film is not just a story; it’s a visual meditation on second chances—for women, for nature, and for anyone who has ever sought to begin again.

Ramson Cardoso: Giving Voice to Life’s Most Special Moments

Written by Tanisha Cardozo

At just three years old, Ramson Cardoso stood in front of a crowd for the first time—unaware that this small step in Lower KG would spark a lifelong passion. It was Miss Margaret from St. Anthony High School, Monte de Guirim, who first entered his name into a Konkani singing competition. Young Ramson went home, told his mother, and together they picked an old hit song. He performed it, won first place, and unknowingly began walking the path of a performer.

The roots of performance ran deep in his maternal family, already immersed in Tiatrs and Zagors. Naturally, Ramson joined in, performing year after year and consistently winning competitions from Lower KG through to 10th standard.

But talent alone doesn’t guarantee success—especially when you come from a non-famous, non-industry background. “I’m not a nepotism kid,” Ramson says plainly. “I had no connections. But I had the support of my family.”

That support, combined with a relentless drive, became his foundation. During the COVID lockdown, he found both inspiration and a creative partner in Brendon. Together, they began writing comic duets that resonated with audiences. This phase helped Ramson sharpen his skills as a songwriter and performer—and gave him the confidence to explore more original work.

Soon, he began writing Kants for college Tiatr competitions and was regularly approached by family members to create custom songs for birthdays and special occasions. Thus began his journey into toast songs.

The Art of a Toast Song

A toast song is not just about rhyming lines—it’s about capturing someone’s essence. Ramson begins with listening—really listening—to the memories, milestones, and emotions a family shares about a loved one. Then he begins to shape the lyrics, compose the melody, and builds the entire production from scratch.

What sets him apart? He does it all. From songwriting, to shooting to editing the final video, Ramson is a one-man production house. “I’m a perfectionist,” he admits. “I like things done a certain way.” He even collaborates with clients to include personal touches like family images or references.

Some songs come together in hours, especially when he’s in “the zone.” One song, for example, was written at night, confirmed in the morning, recorded and shot by 4 PM, edited overnight, and released the next day. Most of his work features original lyrics and melodies, though occasionally he finds inspiration from trending tunes—as in the case of Mogachem Ful, which borrowed from the popular Maan Meri Jaan.

Despite tight deadlines, writer’s block, and the emotional pressure of translating people’s lives into song, Ramson finds joy in creating music that connects. “People tell me my songs made them cry or gave them goosebumps—that’s what makes it worth it.”

The Busy Season and Beyond

Between October and February, the pace is relentless. It’s the peak time for weddings, events, and tiatrs, and Ramson juggles back-to-back projects. But he thrives under pressure—it fuels his creativity.

His academic background in Theatre Arts also deepened his understanding of storytelling and performance. Today, at just 23, he feels more confident in his craft than ever before.

If his life were a Tiatr, he says, it would be called ‘The Ba***ds of Tiatr,’ and he would play himself.

He doesn’t have a favorite song. “All my songs are special in their own way,” he says. But if you had to describe Ramson Cardoso in just three words? Talented. Systematic. Perfectionist.

And perhaps, that’s all you really need to know.

5 Seconds of Summer Make Bold Comeback With “NOT OK” and New Album ‘Everyone’s a Star!’

After a long-awaited hiatus, Australian pop-rock powerhouse 5 Seconds of Summer are back in full force. The band has just released their explosive new single “NOT OK,” marking their first official group release since 2022. Alongside the track, they’ve announced their sixth studio album Everyone’s a Star!, set to arrive on November 14 via their new label, Republic Records.

Known for their genre-blending sound and electric performances, 5SOS — comprised of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin — return with music that reflects their growth as individuals and as a band. “NOT OK” is a dark yet anthemic track that taps into emotional vulnerability and inner chaos, wrapped in the band’s signature high-energy style.

The lyrics — “Hey, I’m not okay / I like the darker side of me…” — reveal a raw self-awareness, with Hemmings describing it as a song that celebrates all parts of oneself, even the ones we often hide.

This release comes after years of solo pursuits by each member. Ashton Irwin launched his solo career in 2020 with Superbloom and followed up with Blood on the Drums in 2024. Luke Hemmings shared his introspective debut When Facing the Things We Turn Away From in 2021, followed by the Boy EP in 2024. Calum Hood dropped his debut solo album ORDER chaos ORDER in early 2025, and Michael Clifford released Sidequest that same year.

The new album Everyone’s a Star! aims to merge that individual experience into a unified sound. “This band is made of four people who could all have their own solo albums… [but this] embodies all of that,” Hemmings said in a statement. “We were teenagers at the beginning of 5 Seconds of Summer… I think this record has more of our original spirit — but with 15 years of wisdom and a dash of reckless abandon.”

The album includes 12 tracks, including the already released “NOT OK” and others like “Telephone Busy,” “Boyband,” and “Ghost.”

To celebrate the release, the band held a free pop-up show at The Sun Rose in West Hollywood, streamed live on TikTok. They performed classics like “Youngblood,” “She Looks So Perfect,” and “Teeth,” while debuting new material from the upcoming album.

Everyone’s a Star! is shaping up to be a defining chapter in 5SOS’s legacy — one that honors their roots while pushing boldly into new territory.
