At a time when securing a confirmed train ticket has become increasingly challenging, especially at short notice, railway officials have clarified that passengers can request a name change on a reserved ticket โ but only under special circumstances.
Passengers seeking a name correction must approach the nearest railway reservation office with a printout of the electronic reservation slip and a valid photo identity proof. The request must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
According to officials, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the concerned division or the Chief Reservation Supervisor at major stations is authorised to permit such changes. The Station Manager is also empowered to approve alterations to reservations.
Name transfers are allowed within immediate family members. If a passenger submits a written request 24 hours before departure, the ticket can be transferred to another family member such as father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, or wife.
However, officials have clarified that this facility is permitted only once per ticket. In the case of group bookings, name changes exceeding 10% of the total group size will not be allowed. Additionally, tickets issued under concession categories are not eligible for name change.
Passengers are advised to follow the official guidelines strictly to avoid inconvenience during travel.
