Master Piece by Michaelangelo – The Our Lady of Piety Statue
Hello My Allys,
It is Friday, the best time of the week! I am all excited as the weekend is around the Corner and Well, here I am all set to bring before you a memory of my previous trip to Rome. This trip was indeed a very special one as it was my first ever trip to Europe!
The best part about travelling is that the entire experience turns you from a traveler to a storyteller. And the reason why I started the blog was I had so much to share about travel, social media and self care. Initially, have only started with travel, will soon grow this blog into social media and self care post too. So Stay Tuned! I have a lot to share.
This week, I thought of featuring, one of Michaelangelo’s finest piece of art – the Our lady of Piety statue which is situated in the beautiful St Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City. The finest sculpture referred to as Pieta is one of a kind statue designed of it’s time. This indeed launched Michaelangelo’s career making him successful and famous than the work he did previously.
Taking a closer look at the history, as to why this statue was sculpted. Well, it was way back in 1497 when a cardinal Jean de Billheres commissioned Michaelangelo to create a sculpture that would be placed in the side of the chapel in Rome, which later went on to become world famous and shifted to the St Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City. When Michaelangelo was assigned to create this sculpture, he was given instructions to create “the most beautiful work of marble in Rome, one that no living artist could better.”
Well keeping in mind that, he went on to create this marble sculpture of – Pieta, well it has several wow factors attached to it.
The sculpture of Pieta as it is fondly referred to as, depicts the tragic moment of the Virgin Mary holding her son in her arms after Jesus was brought down from the cross. And considering the fact that we are already in the Lent Season, I thought this would be one fine post to share insights about this beautiful sculpture!
Initially the Sculpture was housed at the chapel of Santa Petronilla which was later shifted to the place where it is housed now, towards the right as one enters the St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City.
If one takes a closer look at the sculpture, the statue shows Mary filled with Piety holding her son on her lap, post the Crucifixion. The Crucifixion is signified considering the marks of nails indicating wounds on Jesus’s hands.
Even though his sculpture came under several criticism, some to name where that the sculpture showed Mary Younger in age something around 33 while she was round 50 years of age at that time. Michaelangelo gracefully accepted them all. And today, everyone regards him as world famous for his this piece of art.

- The sculpture took less than two year to complete.
- The marble used to carve this sculpture was Carrara marble, one of the favorite of the sculptors back then in the ancient Rome.
- This is the only artwork of his which he had ever signed.

Essentials for an Air Travel

It is Tuesday… The Day that I often come out to help you and give you’ll insights about some tips and tricks that will help you while you plan your travel. And Tuesday being the day to give tips here I am come with my magic wand to give you tricks and tips that will surely save your day.
This week, I thought I should give you insights about what should be the Essentials you should keep in mind for an Air Travel as Air Travel being such an instrumental part of my life. I am sure by reading my previous post, you must be aware that travelling is one of the most important part of my life. And as I head towards the end of my birthday month, I definitely plan to add a couple of more places in my kitty of travel.
So without delaying any longer here it is Essentials for an Air Travel exclusively only on Being Allycaral. So to get started, You will require the following things: Your Luggage Bag; a Lock; Plastic zipper bags & Travel Size Personal Care Products.
Planning always helps be it for a short trip or for a long trip, it is one of the best ways to safe a little or to conduct your trip in your budget. Now when you head for a Air Travel there are couple of things you need to keep in mind.
First Your Luggage Bag should follow the limit which is prescribed as per your flight ticket. For Most Domestic Flight the weight for the baggage should be 15 kg while for International Flight the baggage weight allowed is 20 kg per person. (However it maybe subject in countries) Once you have your luggage ready, next most important is your carry on flight luggage. This needs to be as light as possible. Don’t carry something heavy or oversized bags as it may not fit in the overhead compartment door or near the footrest of passenger infront of you. So Carry a roughly 62 inches bags which will be more than enough to keep your essentials in it. Additionally to this carry on luggage, you can carry two personal bags such as your laptop bag and purse.
Second, Lock Your Bags securely to avoid things being missed or lost in your flight travel. In addition, if you are carrying valuables remember to carry the same in your carry bag at all time. Also, incase you are carry gold keep the bills of the same along with the ornaments to avoid cross questioning and suspicion at the airport.
Third, Travel Size Care Products – This is useful especially when you have long or connecting flights. A lot of times you travel from one time zone to the other so in such circumstances this is a pure rescue on flight to brush, moisture yourself and so on. Most Important always carry a sanitizer along be it while you travel on flight or are using an airport toilet, a sanitizer is a must.
Also, it is always advisable to carry an extra pack of clothes along with your travel goodies in your carry on luggage for the simple reason several times there are chances of luggage getting misplaced, so it is always better to be prepared for the worse.
Next, always carry a plastic bags in your luggage, to keep your dirty laundry separate from your fresh and new clothes or else by the end of the trip when you return, all your clothes in the bag will start smelling.
Lastly, when you are travelling with electronic items like laptop, cell phones, and personal entertainment gadgets it is always better to be keep it in a place where you can instantly reach to it. This is because of security check in the area to make your security check hassle free.
Now as it is a season of “Ek ke saath, Ek muft…” (Buy One and Get One Free) Here is an additional tip – If you are planning to travel by air then, book tickets on Tuesdays as it is the cheapest on these two days throughout the week.

Visit to the Colosseum

Today let’s travel to Rome in the Being Allycaral Friday Feature.
I selected this place as this is the second most visited spot in Italy, centrally situated in Rome – The inception of this structure can take you back to ancient Roman Empire and it’s most preserved heritage.
Initially, The Colosseum had a Latin name which was – Amphitheatrum Flavium in english it would mean Flavian Amphitheatre. As the same was constructed during Flavian Dystasy way back in 82 A.D. This Latin term is largely used to describe this structure. However, the same is world famous as the Colosseum.
There are several instances and it’s successors’ stories, which would definitely leave you wondering how old and ancient – is this beautiful structure: that stands alone withstanding all the nature’s fury from the past several years.
The structure by itself had the capacity to hold over 80,000 people with on an average more than 60,000 people for each show. The structure was used as an amphitheatre to display the dramas based on classical mythology, re-enactments of famous battles, gladiatorial contests, executions, animal hunts and so on.
The iconic symbol of Imperial Rome has definitely been damaged due to stone robbers and earthquakes in the past. But it’s ancient roman connection makes it a favourite spot. Also, it is believed the significance with Roman Catholic Church too makes it a major tourist attraction. Every year, during Good Friday there is a torch lit ‘Way of the Cross’ procession led by the Pope near The Colosseum, Thus strengthening it’s links more with Roman Catholic Crowd.
Some of the structure, is still under restoration as it’s a very big project to be completed. However, the Colosseum stays open everyday to host a wide range of tourist coming from everyday from different parts of the world.
FACTS TO KNOW:
- According to the Guinness World Record, it still holds the record to be the world’s largest amphitheater.
- If one has a closer look would clearly give you the Italian version of the five cent euro coin.
