Sunkissed Beautiful Adil Shah Palace, #Panjim ๐Ÿฏ

Hello Allys,

Yes! You must be thinking I am very fascinated with this palace, true! Who wouldnโ€™t be!!! This is a very beautiful palace, which is hardly noticed by people in the area. I had a regret the last time I saw this palace which is mentioned in my previous post. I visited the same during the night so I didn’t have a picture during the day. Also another reason was I tried clicking several pictures of this palace but as there was parking of cars infront of the same, I couldnt get a good view. Finally today maybe was the day, and here ths pictureย  is. The Day View of this beautiful palace with itโ€™s entrance which was shifted from river front to the other side. Details of the same can be read on my previous post – https://allycaralgoa.wordpress.com/2018/01/18/destination-india-goa-adil-shah-palace-panjim/

Have a pleasant week ahead!

Have you explored the new hangout place in Panjim?

The capital of Goa is indeed a beautiful place. A home to some stunning structures like you must have read in my previous articles where we visited the Adil Shah Palace, Panjim church all housed in the capital of the state of Goa. There is certainly no doubt that Panjim – the capital is visited by several people every single day. However, like always said and gone very few people take time out and notice the beauty of this place.

Ofcourse, we all know that we have aย  very busy life, where we work so much so to ensure a better future. But in order to ensure a better future we often forget to take time out and live the moment we are in. And as a prominent person once said, Work Well but at the same time take time off for the people and things that matter because afterwards all that you will have is these memories rather than those projects and deadlines to meet. There is no doubt, working too is important but taking breaks are equally very very important.

Well todayโ€™s feature is a place, which very few people are aware of! It is the placeย which is situated near the SAG Ground. A very common question I received, through my previous blog post and so here I am introducing a segment of how to get there.

How to get there?

The location is simple, even if you plan to go via a bus, you will get there. Incaseย  you plan to go by bus, take a bus heading from Panjim Bus Stand towards the Miramar Beach, here tell the conductor to drop you to the “marriots” stop.ย  Once he drops you to that point, there is a road which is bang opposite to the point he dropped you. (To be more specific, the marriots stop means he will drop you right infront of Times of India Goa Office, Bang opposite Times of India Office is the road. Enter that road and walk till the point where the road ends. (If you have a bike, you can take that along. There is a parking area once the road ends) Once you reach that point, left side you will see the campal indoor stadium while right hand side, is a place under construction, well that is our destination. The same is still under construction in the sense the light connection yet to be installed so the same area is prohibited for visitors during late evenings. However, during the day time this place gives you some really beautiful pictures. Well, and for us that is all that matters!!!

The peacefulness and serenity of the place recharges your soul instantly! During the afternoons you get sunkissed, as you walk or run on the footpath which gives you a phenomenal view of the beautiful Mandovi River holding the boats, barges floating in it’s arms. Adding to this mesmerizing view is the Reis Magos Fort, the light house and the outer coastal line of the Verem Betim making it a picture perfect frame.

This place is nice, peaceful and pleasant. A place that as we were discussing can revive energy, an as it is in Panjim the same can be visited in between your busy day. And a good thing is that, there is by default two policemen in civilian clothes patrolling the area for any kind of misconduct.

As we were enjoying the view with fresh vegetables detoxing ourself, in our first visit itself, we fell in love with this place! Time just flew, it was almost 3 hours in this beautiful place and with a heavy heart though we wanted to see the sunset we couldnโ€™t as we had rush back soon. But definitely, one day we will and will definately share a post about it. Incase, you have been to this place or now that I have told you’ll how to get there, do share with us your photos of this particular place when you visit, it could be selfies or random photos of this place. Share Your Photos on facebook, twitter or instagramย using the hashtag #TravelwithAllycaral. Trust me, I am really looking forward to see your pictures!

Well, before I say a Goodbye, Remember we only live once, So lets live the same to the fullest.

FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW

This footpath is an initiative to beautify Panjim under the Smart City Mission. There are several such places and structures which are installed under the mission in the entire capital. The work for the same is in full swing. The person who is closely working to ensure the work is sped up is Ex- MLA Shri. Sidharth Kuncolienkar and his team.

TIP OF THE DAY

Enjoy the view, with any food items of your choice, however avoid taking alcohol as it is strictly prohibited in the area. If you are found drinking, then the cops which are present simply ask you to leave from the area. So avoid unnecessary argument and go there to enjoy the place rather than spoiling your mood for petty issues.

DESTINATION INDIA, GOA : ADIL SHAH PALACE, PANJIM

Yes! A Palace, Goa has the honour to house a palace in the capital city which is passed by several people every single day, but is overlooked every time. The Palace which I am referring to is one of the oldest Palace which can be dated back to the time of Portuguese Invasion in the state of Goa. This beautiful palace belonged to Muslim ruler of Bijapur, Yusuf Adil Shah (1450 – 1511)

The palace is strategically located to provide a beautiful riverfront view of the beuatiful Mandovi river. The Palace is commonly referred to as Idalcao Palace. It was also referred to as Adil Shah’s Summer Palace cum fortress.

Goa has a varied and a distinctive history with this beautiful palace, it was both well maintained and well armed during the reign with over 55 cannons and saltwater moat. However, when the Portuguese invaded Goa under the cable leaadership of Afonso de Albuquerque in 1510, the Sultan of Bijapurย had to give up.The Palace got the name of Idalcao Palace during post Portuguese invasion. It was a Portuguese version of the name “Adil Shah” Thus it was called Idalcao’s Palace. Following which this became the temporary residence of Viceroys of Goa.

The Viceroys who came to Panjim resided in the Idalcao Palace, and then moved for their ceremonial which were held in Old Goa. Same before leaving on a sea voy age, they would come to stay at the Idalcao Palace and from there on head on a sea voyage. The same continued to be used in this manner till 1918.

Post the Liberation of Goa from the Portuguese Rule in the year 1961, the Palace was used as the Secretariat, of the Goa State Legislative Assembly. Soon, the new secretariat was built at the Porvorim. Following which this Palace was converted into the office of administration of the Government Body.

The interiors of the palace is not open to general public, tourist or visitors. But the Exterior beauty is just so mind blogging. The typical colonial design and architectural style has been developed and enhanced with the passing years. Also the main enterance which was earlier facing the front of the Mandovi river was shifted towards the backside of the building of which the main entrance had a crest of the viceroy which was replaced by post liberation to Ashoka Chakra which is the Indian Emblem.

Very few people, get an opportunity to visit this Palace and one of which was me, The beauty of the exteriors is that it is simple and gives you a feel of an old Portuguese Mansion, the highlight of which is the big chandelier in the main hall.

DID YOU KNOW:
The Palace is significantly palaced in between two statues of great stature, towards the left is the Statue of Dayanad Bandodkar, the first Chief Minister of Goa while towards the right is the statue of theย Abbรฉ Faria., the great hypnotist.,

TIP OF THE DAY:

If you plan to visit the palace especially the interiors then plan your visit during the festivals like Serendipity, along with the art appreciation, you will also get to enjoy the view of the river front sipping a hot coffee from your the top veranda of the Palace
