Panaji witnessed a heart-stopping cricket encounter as Priority Titans edged past Baale Tigers by a solitary run in Qualifier 2 of the PGML 5.0 tournament, organised by the Panaji Gymkhana. Played at the Bandodkar Ground, the high-stakes clash lived up to expectations, delivering a finish that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the very last ball.

After being put in to bat, Priority Titans posted a competitive total of 163 for 9 in their 20 overs. Heramb Shankar Parab anchored the innings with a composed 50 off 41 balls, while Rijul Pathak added a steady 37. Kiran Shirwaikar provided the much-needed acceleration with a quickfire 34 off just 15 deliveries, and Jaipal Mada chipped in with an unbeaten 21 towards the end to push the total to a defendable score.

In response, Baale Tigers began confidently, with Lakshay Garg and Sandeep Dahad stitching together a solid opening stand. Samar Dubhashi further strengthened the chase with a well-paced 40, keeping his side firmly in contention.

The match reached a dramatic climax in the final over, with Baale Tigers needing 10 runs off the last two balls. Niraj Lotlekar’s boundary off the penultimate delivery reignited hopes, and four byes off the final ball brought the equation down to the barest margin. However, the Titans held their nerve to seal a thrilling one-run victory.

With this win, Priority Titans advance to the grand finale, where they will face RC Goa. Heramb Shankar Parab’s all-round brilliance, including his crucial half-century and two wickets, earned him the Man of the Match award.

Spectators at the Panaji Gymkhana ground were treated to two closely fought league encounters on Saturday in the ongoing PGML 5.0 tournament, with Desserts N More Avengers and RC Goa emerging victorious in nail-biting finishes.

In the morning match, Sun Estate Warriors won the toss and elected to bat but were restricted to 125 for 9 in their 20 overs. Mehank Dharwadkar stood firm with an unbeaten 48, while opener Devidas Kholkar chipped in with 31. Despite a steady start, regular wickets in the middle order curtailed the Warriors’ progress. Madar Basappa was the pick of the bowlers for Desserts N More Avengers, finishing with two wickets, while Ojas, Amod Borkar, Vikas Shetty and Muktiar Kadri claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 126, Desserts N More Avengers paced their innings carefully to reach 129 for 6 in 19.1 overs. Amod Borkar anchored the chase with a composed 50 off 42 deliveries. In the closing stages, Smit Dalvi and Suraj Hirani remained unbeaten to guide their side to a four-wicket win. Dhilan Shah was the standout bowler for Sun Estate Warriors with two wickets, while Rohit Rane picked up one.

The afternoon fixture saw Manas Mavericks post 128 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs after opting to bat. Panaji, January 19, 2026: Sherwin Shaw Falcons and Baale Tigers recorded convincing wins in the Panaji Gymkhana-organised PGML 5.0 tournament on Sunday. Matches were held at the Panaji Gymkhana Ground, Campal.



In the morning fixture, Dempo Challengers posted 193 for 5 in 20 overs, powered by Vedant Naik’s explosive 43 off 16 balls, including six sixes, and Shailesh’s 38 off 20 balls. Sherwin Shaw Falcons chased down the total, finishing at 194 for 7 in 19.5 overs. Tunish Sawkar starred with 54 off 22 balls, while Sazu Naik (30) and skipper Iftikhar Agha (28*) played crucial cameos. For Dempo Challengers, Aditya Angle claimed a remarkable 5 wickets for 26 runs.

In the afternoon clash, Manas Mavericks were restricted to 138 all out in 19.3 overs, with Dishank Prabhu Misquin scoring 55 and Ajinkya Kudtarkar contributing 28. Baale Tigers chased the target comfortably, finishing at 139 for 4 in 18.3 overs. RC Goa, Sun Estate Warriors Register First Wins in PGML 5.0 at Panaji Gymkhana

RC Goa and Sun Estate Warriors registered their first victories of the tournament on Sunday in the ongoing PGML 5.0, organised by the Panaji Gymkhana at the Campal ground in Panaji.

In the morning match, RC Goa put up a dominant performance against Priority Titans. After winning the toss, Priority Titans elected to bat first and posted 106 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Rijul Pathak top-scored with 34 runs, while Heramb Shankar Parab contributed 22. RC Goa’s bowling unit shared wickets evenly, with Gauresh Khandepakar and Dattesh Priolkar claiming two wickets each.

Chasing a modest target, RC Goa reached 111 for 4 in just 10.5 overs. Skipper Rajshekhar Harikant stole the spotlight with a blistering unbeaten 55 off just 19 balls, smashing seven sixes and a boundary. His match-winning knock earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by chief guest Rajesh Dempo in the presence of Manish Karapurkar and Amit Nachinolkar.

The second match of the day saw Sun Estate Warriors take on Baale Tigers in another low-scoring contest. Baale Tigers opted to bat first after winning the toss but were restricted to 115 runs in 19 overs. Samar Dubhashi remained unbeaten on 37, while Dhiraj Phadte added 33. Sun Estate Warriors bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Balkrishna Hodarkar and Manish Kakode picking up two wickets each.

Sun Estate Warriors chased down the target comfortably, scoring 116 for 5 in 15 overs. Abhijit Bhandare top-scored with 51 runs off 30 balls, striking five fours and two sixes, while Mithun Govekar added a valuable 35 before retiring out. Bhandare was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by chief guest Harshvardhan Bhatkuly in the presence of Girish Parekh.

Both teams had suffered defeats in their opening matches, making Sunday’s victories an important boost as the PGML 5.0 tournament continues to deliver exciting local cricket action.

Verna Industries Association Clinches GCCI Alliance Cup Cricket Title in Thrilling Final

The Verna Industries Association (VIA) emerged victorious in the Third GCCI Alliance Cup Cricket Tournament, defeating the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) by 30 runs in a gripping final held at the Panaji Gymkhana grounds.

Organised by the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the tournament aimed to foster camaraderie, teamwork, and sportsmanship among leading industrial and professional associations in Goa. The day-long event attracted a large gathering of business leaders, professionals, and sports enthusiasts.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by GCCI President Ms. Pratima Dhond, setting the tone for a spirited competition. Six teams participated in the event, including the Travel & Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), Verna Industries Association (VIA), Goa State Industries Association (GSIA), Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI), and a Bankers’ Team comprising officials from RBI, SBI, Union Bank, NABARD, Bank of India, and other banks.

After a series of competitive matches, VIA showcased exceptional teamwork and determination to secure the championship title. GCCI put up a strong fight in the final but fell short by 30 runs in an engaging contest that kept spectators on edge.

During the prize distribution ceremony, Ms. Pratima Dhond, along with Mr. Manguirish Pai Raiker and Mr. Sandeep Bhandare, felicitated the winners and outstanding performers. Mr. Viraj Ekwade was named Man of the Series, while individual honours went to Mr. Sanjay Bhandari (Best Batsman), Mr. Mohammed Shami (Best Bowler), and Mr. Naresh (Best Fielder).

Heads of various associations and banking institutions praised GCCI for its initiative in strengthening bonds within the business community through sports. The tournament stood as a testament to unity, healthy competition, and the positive spirit of collaboration.

The event was efficiently coordinated by Mr. Sanjay Amonkar, Director General, GCCI, along with Ms. Ambika Dhakenkar, Ms. Chetan Naik, and Mr. Sanket Kaskar, ensuring its grand success.
