In his address, Dr. Shrinivas not only lauded their achievements but also introduced them to the vast possibilities offered by IGNOUโ€™s distance education model, highlighting programs that enable learners to continue their academic journey without compromising their current commitments.

IGNOU new Regional Director Meets Hon. Governor of Goa to strengthen Distance Education in Goa


In a significant development, Dr. G. Shrinivas has taken over as the new Regional Director of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Goa. Following his appointment, Dr. Shrinivas met with the Honorable Governor of Goa Shri Sridharan Pillai to seek guidance and discuss strategies for strengthening IGNOU and distance education in the state.

Dr. Shrinivas, a seasoned academician in Open and Distance learning brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Deputy Director of IGNOU Regional Centre, Panaji and Mumbai Region. With his expertise and vision, he aims to further expand IGNOU’s reach and improve access to quality education in Goa.

Under Dr. Shrinivas’ leadership, IGNOU Goa is expected to introduce new programs and initiatives, leveraging technology to enhance the learning experience. His focus on strengthening distance education will enable more students, especially those from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds, to pursue higher education.

The IGNOU Regional Centre, Panaji, currently serves over 10 active study centers across Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra ยฒ. With Dr. Shrinivas at the helm, the center is poised to play a more significant role in promoting open and distance learning in the region. IGNOU offers 334 academic Programmes and has more than 3.2 million students taking benefit of Higher education and stands as largest Open University in the world.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Panaji Goa successfully conducted its 38th Convocation, celebrating the academic achievements of its learners. The grand event was held at Lekha Bhavan, Porvorim on 5th March 2025 with Shri Subash Phal Dessai, Honโ€™ble Minister for Social Welfare, Government of Goa, as the esteemed Guest of Honour. The Chief Guest at Delhi was Shri Dhanrmendra Pradhan Minister for Education, Govt of India. The Convocation was held at 37 Regional Centres across the country. 317000 degrees were awarded in the country.

At the Regional Centre Goa, a total of 1401students were awarded degrees and diplomas in various disciplines, reflecting IGNOUโ€™s commitment to providing quality education through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. Addressing the graduating students, Shri Subash Phal Dessai commended IGNOUโ€™s role in democratizing education and providing opportunities to learners from diverse backgrounds, including those from remote and marginalized communities.

The Regional Director, Dr G Shrinivas presented the Regional Centreโ€™s report, highlighting key achievements, learner support initiatives, and the growing impact of IGNOUโ€™s academic programs in the region. He emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and encouraged graduates to contribute meaningfully to society with the knowledge and skills acquired through their studies.

The convocation was attended by distinguished academicians, government officials, faculty members, and proud parents of the graduates. The event concluded with the ceremonial conferment of degrees, leaving the students inspired to embark on new professional and academic journeys.
