CSIR-NIO Hosts National Science Seminar on Marine Research and India’s Future Prospects


CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa, hosted a two-day National Science Seminar in Hindi at its Dona Paula campus on the theme “Contribution of Marine Research in India’s Development and Future Prospects.” The seminar brought together experts, researchers, and scholars from across the country to discuss the current landscape and future opportunities in ocean science and its impact on India’s development.

The Chief Guest for the seminar was Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean of the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Goa Campus, who spoke about the importance of integrating Ayurveda into lifestyle and shared key initiatives taken by her institution. Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director of CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar, graced the event as the Guest of Honour and emphasised the importance of such national-level scientific seminars in furthering research dialogue. He also acknowledged the critical role that CSIR institutions, including NIO, have played in advancing national goals through scientific excellence.

Among the highlights of the seminar was a keynote lecture by Dr. Arun Deo Singh, Senior Professor, Department of Geology at Banaras Hindu University, who presented insights into the utility of microfossils in ocean exploration. CSIR-NIO Director Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh addressed the gathering and spoke about the immense potential that ocean science holds in contributing to socio-economic growth and national progress. He stressed how marine research outcomes can directly support the objectives of nation-building.

The seminar concluded with a valedictory function attended by Dr. Asha B. Gehlot, Member of the Hindi Language Advisory Committee, NITI Aayog, and Head of the Hindi Department at Government College, Khandola, Goa. In her address, Dr. Gehlot underscored the importance of conducting scientific seminars in Hindi and other Indian languages, stating that this would help bridge the gap between complex scientific research and public understanding, ultimately making a stronger impact on the blue economy.

The seminar featured four key scientific sessions across the disciplines of Chemical Oceanography, Biological Oceanography, Geological Oceanography, and Physical Oceanography & Ocean Engineering. Over the course of the two days, 34 oral presentations and 20 poster presentations were made by delegates from 12 institutions across the country. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 150 delegates, creating a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange and collaborative thinking.

The seminar successfully highlighted the transformative role of marine research in India’s present and future, while also promoting science communication in Indian languages to foster broader outreach and societal benefit.

National Seminar Celebrates Life and Literature of Dr. Manoharrai Sardesai


Renowned Konkani writer Dr. Manoharrai Sardesai was remembered and celebrated at a one-day National Seminar on “Dr. Manoharrai Sardesai: Life and Literature.” The seminar was organized jointly by M.E.S. Vasant Joshi College Arts and Commerce Zuarinagar, Goa Konkani Academy, and the Directorate of Official Language, Government of Goa.

Inaugural Session
The seminar commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Manasvi M. Kamat, Principal of M.E.S. Vasant Joshi College. Prof. Satyawan Naik, Head of the Konkani Department and Seminar Coordinator, presented the seminar’s concept and objectives. Vice Principal Rochana Kharangate introduced the chief guest, Shashikant Sardesai, former principal of S. S. Dempo College.

Shashikant Sardesai’s Keynote Address
Shashikant Sardesai, in his keynote address, highlighted Dr. Manoharrai Sardesai’s unique personality and literary contributions. He noted that Dr. Sardesai was known both as an individual and as a writer, presenting socially relevant topics through his literary works. Sardesai’s poetry reflected his personal experiences, and he guided new writers, nurturing literary talent.

Research Papers and Sessions
The seminar featured two sessions, each chaired by a distinguished scholar. The first session, chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Rajay Pawar, Principal of Kala Academy’s College of Theatre Arts, saw research papers presented by Shailendra Mehta, Maya Kharangate, and Rajat Hegde. The second session, chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Cosma Fernandes, Head of the Konkani Department, featured research papers by Raymond D’Cunha, Umesh Sardesai, and R. S. Bhaskar.

Concluding Session
The concluding session was graced by Maya Sardesai, Vice Principal of Dempe Higher Secondary School, as the chief guest. She shared personal insights about Dr. Manoharrai Sardesai’s character, highlighting his respect for women, love for children, and constant encouragement to others.

Vote of Thanks and Conclusion
In his vote of thanks, Satyawan Naik expressed gratitude to all participants and contributors. The event concluded with Asst. Prof. Nalisha Velip compering the final session. The National Seminar attracted around 150 attendees, including scholars, teachers, students, and admirers of Dr. Manoharrai Sardesai, from Goa, Mangalore, Kerala, Mumbai, and other regions.

National Seminar on Fundamental Rights in a Changing World: A Resounding Success


In commemoration of 75 years of the Constitution of India, VVM’s G.R. Kare College of Law, Margao, in association with the Directorate of Higher Education and Modern Law College, Pune, organized a one-day national seminar on “Fundamental Rights in a Changing World: Adapting to Contemporary Challenges” in hybrid mode.

The seminar commenced with an inaugural ceremony graced by the presence of Hon’ble Shri Pravin Faldessai, Deputy Solicitor General of India, as the chief guest. The ceremony set the tone for the insightful discussions that followed.

The seminar featured three technical sessions, where 23 presenters, comprising faculty and students from various law schools and universities across India, presented their papers. The sessions were moderated by esteemed experts:

  2. Dr. Yashomati Ghosh, Professor of Law, IIULER
  3. Vandana Pawar, Assistant Professor, Modern Law College, Pune

The valedictory session was graced by Dr. Ananya Bibave, Principal, Modern Law School, Pune, and Dr. Rahul Tripathi was the Guest of Honour. The session provided a fitting conclusion to the seminar, with the dignitaries emphasizing the importance of fundamental rights in today’s world.

The event was expertly coordinated by Dr. Shruti Nadkarni, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, G.R. Kare College of Law, Margao.
