Indian-Origin Physician Dr. Bobby Mukkamala Makes History as 180th President of the American Medical Association

Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, a physician of Indian origin, has etched his name in history by becoming the 180th President of the American Medical Association (AMA)โ€”the largest and most influential physician organization in the United States.

This landmark achievement not only highlights Dr. Mukkamalaโ€™s commitment to medicine and public health but also underscores the growing global impact of the Indian-American medical community.

Dr. Mukkamala, an otolaryngologist (ENT specialist) from Flint, Michigan, has been a prominent figure in organized medicine for years. โ€œItโ€™s an honor to serve at a time when medicine needs strong, inclusive leadership,โ€ Dr. Mukkamala said. โ€œI am committed to advocating for patients, supporting physicians, and driving solutions to the challenges facing our healthcare system.โ€

As AMA President, Dr. Mukkamala is expected to focus on:

  • ๐Ÿ”น Addressing physician burnout and workforce shortages
  • ๐Ÿ”น Advancing equitable access to healthcare
  • ๐Ÿ”น Advocating for reforms in medical education
  • ๐Ÿ”น Combating misinformation in medicine
